Hi all, a beginner trying to set up a Raspberry Pi solution with a GNS 5890. This forum has been a ton of use in getting going so thanks for that. The dongle works perfectly in Windows, but RPi is proving a bit more tricky.
The best solution is described on this forum as using a small app called adsbox. However, I find the website for the software is now offline:
I managed to find a copy hidden on a Russian web forum but it doesn't seem to include the source code. (http://forum.adsbradar.ru/downloads.php?do=file&id=121)
The version I got does output data (after using the "sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x04D8 product=0xF8E8" trick from here: http://forum.flightradar24.com/threa...ll=1#post30014), however there is bit of oddness - adsbox is giving impossible values for lat/lng. At some point I found a suggestion to subtract the reported value from 360 to get western longitudes, but as below a lot of reports are over 1000.
DF:17 ICAO:400c4f Speed:2.0 Track:265.5 Vertical:-64
DF:17 Distance 0.000000 ICAO:400c4f Alt:37950 Lat:1261.24648 Lon:327.48596
This is also found in the SBS format output (i.e.): MSG,3,,,4CA2AD,,,,,,,36975,,,248.44250,338.59314,, ,0,0,0,0
In addition, I'm not sure if it is an error but speed is reported as "2.0" - what is this format?
I'm very new to this so might have missed something stupid, so I'd be grateful for any pointers, or at the least does someone still have the source tarball? What license is it under (i.e. can I fork it on Github)
Thanks in advance!
