Medical emergency forces (Virgin) plane to land

A Virgin jet flying from Adelaide to Sydney is back in the air after a sick passenger forced it to land in Melbourne.

The patient was taken to Royal Melbourne hospital in a stable condition, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.

Flight (VOZ/DJ)401 left Adelaide at 6am but made a sharp southward turn about half way through the two-and-a-half-hour flight to Sydney, flight radars show.

The plane has since resumed its journey.

    Limpost,

I'm not sure he's made any reference to the far east, unless I'm missing something obvious. There is a comment in the other link and the commentary regarding the AirAsia crash in the Java Sea and so there are two incidents referred to. That may be where the confusion lies. I could have worded my post in a better manner.

    Regards,
    Gregg

That was the first fatal accident for AirAsia, the region's top budget carrier, which was formed in 2001. AirAsia X is the group's long-haul arm."

An AirAsia X Airbus A330-300, registration 9M-XXG performing flight D7-172 from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) with 371 people on board, had just reached cruise level 300 about 110nm eastnortheast of Kuala Lumpur when the crew entered a hold to work the checklists on the failure of an autothrottle and subsequently decided to return to Kuala Lumpur. The aircraft burned off fuel and landed safely back about 4:45 hours after departure."

Taiwan pilots 'lost thrust in one engine, restarted the other'

(Reuters) - The crew of a twin-propellor TransAsia plane which crashed into a river in Taipei killing 35 people had lost power in one engine but shut down and restarted the other, investigators said on Friday.

"The airplane took off from Taipei-Sung Shan Airport's runway 10 at 10:51 hours local time and turned right, climbing to an altitude of 1350 feet. At 10:52 the master warning sounded in the cockpit associated with the right engine (nr.2) flame out procedure message. Some 26 seconds later the left hand (nr.1) power lever was retarded to flight idle. After twenty seconds the left engine condition lever was set to the fuel shutoff position resulting in left engine shutdown.
Instead of continuing the climbing right hand turn, the airplane had turned left and began losing altitude and speed with several stall warnings sounding in the cockpit. At 10:53, the flight contacted the Sung Shan Tower controller declaring a Mayday and reporting an 'engine flameout'. The airplane then turned to the right while the crew attempted to restart the left hand engine."

It reminded me of the Boeing 747 (cargo) crash in Afghanistan. Though the 747 crash was due to cargo shifting but the two are so similar (due to stalling).

Pilot killed in light plane crash near Wollongong

"A father of two described as a family man and larrikin has been killed after his light plane encountered bad weather and crashed in bushland near Wollongong, south of Sydney.

The body of Robert Greig, 57, was found in wreckage by a police team searching an escarpment near Austinmer, a coastal suburb in Wollongong's north, about 8:00am."

Wedderburn where he took off from is a little airfield south of Cambelltown/Sydney and is very popular with recreational flyers but the area where he went down in very bad weather is extremely rugged, mountainous terrain.

I didn't know him but know some of the guys from Bankstown (a General Aviation airport nearer to Sydney) and have taken part in many searches in areas such as he found himself in, also with some all too often tragic results.

    RIP.
