They had an incident with a medical helicopter medic getting his eye burned by someone pointing a green laser at them here in Dallas a few days ago

I can understand it if someone gets a laser pointer they want to see if they can pick out that tree 1000m away, then a plane or helicopter comes past and they wonder if they can pick that out too - without a thought about the pilots and passengers on the aircraft.
the 30 months sentence mentioned above for lighting up the palne and police helicopter mentioned above may have been so it would hit the prime time news - so the word got out not to do it, maybe sentances like that should be happen more often and it be pointed out the the light beam has two ends - the one on the ground points the the person who is holding the laser.

This teen got 30 months in jail for his own Laser stunt. The kid went on to point it at the Police chopper that was looking for him... talk about dumb !
A judge in California has sent a strong message to anyone who thinks that pointing lasers at aircraft is just harmless fun ‘n’ games.Attached Files

I wouldn't take the information from a grain of salt knowing the media outlet publishing this..
I find it hard to believe they could see a target at 26,000 overhead let alone track it or point it at it for a solid 10seconds. Given the beans start to disperse to a really wide and weak beam over a matter of a few hundred meters
All the while giving people that use them for legitimate astronomy like myself (I don't even point it directly at satellites incase one turns out to be an over-fly!) a bad name and heading toward banning them

Fiery plane crash at Aspen Airport
These are preliminary reports so may contain some inaccuracies;
ASPEN, Colo. - The Pitkin County Sheriff's Office confirms emergency crews are responding to an accident at the Aspen Airport.
The plane appears to be a Bombardier Challenger 600 that was coming from Tucson to Aspen, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Comedian Kevin Nealon tweeted: "Horrible plane crash here at Aspen airport. Exploded into flames as it was landing. I think it was a private jet."
"Fire truck and ambulances were on the scene within minutes," Nealon tweeted. "I don't believe there are any survivors."
