  • No aircrafts, approach FDH, Ubuntu 14.04, DVB-T?

Using Flightradar24 for a while as a user I am trying to contribute to the community but it looks like I am not succesful.

Problem: I cannot see that my installation is tracking aircrafts although airplanes are literally flying over my house approaching FDH.

I have a Ubuntu desktop 14.04 running 24/7 to monitor cameras around my house. As the machine is not very busy and the other hardware was already available I installed
the linux DEB package, attached the DVB-T stick and a DVB-T antenna, sitting on the outside of a window. Cable length is around 3m. Antenna is working if attached to a TV.

    What could be my problem?

Accessing the machine through Port 8754 I get the following output:
    Code:
    Flightradar24 Feeder/Decoder
    Linux/generic/i686/1.0.13-2

As I can see, no signal received. ADS-B signal works only if there is "line of sight" between antenna and plane. You should place antenna higher and with no obstructions.
Here http://forum.flightradar24.com/threa...1-best-antenna you can find tutorials for DIY antenna. Try make one. You will see the difference.

I copy the complete log as of today? I am new here so maybe I am not allowed to..
        fr24feed.txt
The file extension was .log, I renamed it to .txt because otherwise I was not allowed to upload.

Agreed, after scanning through the actual 251 pages of thread I found the link on page 250 to abcd567's thread about DIY antennas (3 easy antennas for beginners) and see that my actual standard DVB-T antenna has possibly limitations.

It just keeps on pinging which suggests that the antenna might not be receiving any data.

Conclusion: DVB-T sticks seems to be working but antenna is not working properly. JRF, go get/build a correct antenna, place it as high as possible outdoor and test again! Correct?

There is possibility that tuner is not ok. So, if you have "visual" of plane from antenna position, stick should "see" that plane, even with that antenna.

So, i suggest you to take your stick, laptop with Zadig and rtl1090 installed and take it out for test. Take it somewhere high.

That's the one. After you check your stick with that configuration, go for antenna, DIY or buy one for 1090 Mhz

I agree with Amper. It's better to check the dongle with your windows machine, just to be sure.

                          Thx Amper and Khan,
I bought a new dongle from jetvision.de that just worked after plugging it into the Ubuntu machine, it is already tracking and uploading. I returned the other dongle to Amazon, I was not even able to receive standard DVB-T TV with it, although I am in a DVB-T zone.
