Volcano illustrates world's interconnectedness
CHICAGO – A volcano erupts in Iceland, and the effects ripple around the globe: A mom in Romania frets about making her son's wedding in Texas. A florist in New York worries shipments won't arrive. Patients awaiting treatment in Nigeria have to wait another week for the doctors.
The fallout from the ash cloud looming over Europe illustrates just how interconnected our world has become.

CFLEU and other similar
I saw that this plane and 4 others with similar registrations (CF...) were all heading south off NW Scotland slightly before the time you mention - am very intrigued. Am also intrigued by the behaviour of several BA flights at the moment, which seem to be over Wales and ireland - if only there was someone on this forum listening in to them....

Study justifies closing airports in volcano event
Hi
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The disruptive closing of some European airports after last year's volcanic eruption in Iceland was the right thing to do and may have saved lives, a new study concludes.
The hard, sharp particles of volcanic ash blasted high into the air could have caused jet engines to fail and sandblasted airplane windows to the point where it would be impossible to see out, according to a study led by Sigurdur Gislason of the University of Iceland.
