    Sorry to post here if not appropriate but the MH370 thread is closed and this information will be important and of interest to some;

    The Malaysian government has officially declared the disappearance of Malaysian Airline flight MH370 an accident and says there were no survivors.

    No trace of the Beijing-bound aircraft has been found since it disappeared on 8 March 2014.

    Officials say that the recovery operation is ongoing but that the 239 people onboard are now presumed dead.

    The plane's whereabouts are still unknown despite a massive international search in the southern Indian Ocean.

    The declaration on Thursday should allow compensation payments to relatives of the victims.

    Malaysia officially declares the disappearance of MH370 over the Indian Ocean in March 2014 an accident, and says all 239 people on board are presumed dead.


    It also clarifies some mis-information expressed yesterday on the chat that the search for MH370 has been called off- it hasnt (or that it was shot down by the US). We dont need that sort of rubbish, particularly here on FR24 (chat or forum). It is simply a required step as stated above to allow families of victims to pursue compensation which is their right to do so.

    You may turn out to be correct but I'm not convinced of it or that we need these unsubstantiated 'opinion pieces' here on the forum (or on the chat). Where is the evidence for your conclusion?

    And there's the problem for Mike, the moderators and/or Admin, I didn't want to start a 'speculation' or 'conspiracy theory' thread here. Let's please stick to what the authorities know or are reported to know.

        ICAO recommends aircraft to report position every 15 minutes in response to MH370 dis

        Aircraft will have to report their location every 15 minutes under a proposal from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

        The ICAO recommendation, made at a meeting of its member states in Montreal on Wednesday, follows the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in March 2014. The aircraft that operated the flight, a Boeing 777-200ER with registration 9M-MRO, is yet to be found.

        ICAO said the recommendation was “performance-based and not prescriptive”, meaning airlines would be able used any available and planned technologies they believed was suitable to meet the 15-minute reporting standard.

        ICAO Council President Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu said the new standard was an “an important first step in providing a foundation for global flight tracking”.

        “Through an expedited process, it will now be sent to our member states before the end of the month for formal comment and we’re anticipating its adoption by Council as early as this fall,” Aliu said in a statement.

              Malaysia is set to resume the search for missing aircraft MH370

              MALAYSIA says it is in no rush to kickstart the abandoned search for MH370 despite three companies offering to continue to look for the missing plane.

              THREE companies have offered to continue the abandoned search for MH370, but Malaysia says no decision has been made on whether they will be given the go ahead.

              The West Australianreports an offer by US company Ocean Infinity is believed to be favoured by the Malaysian government after a two-year search failed to find any wreckage.

              The plane disappeared on March 8, 2014, on the way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 239 people on board, and the Australian-led search for the aircraft was suspended in January.

              Last month the company offered to take up the search.


              MALAYSIA is expected to announce as early as tomorrow that it is resuming the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

                21st March 2024. MH370. A couple of weeks ago BBC broadcast a programme about a new theory based on the analysis of interrupted radio transmissions indicating that MH370 flew to an area just south of the previous search area. On 4th March it seems the Malaysian government may institute a new search with Ocean Infinity. The proponents of this theory are Jean-Luc Marchand and Peter Waring. At about the same time flightradar24 published "10 years on - how MH370 changed flight tracking and aviation safety". I printed the article off. The first four pages are relevant. On page 2 flightradar24 (FR24) refers to 'the final signal north of Vietnam". This presumably is to do with the short orange line on the graph on page 3 which refers to HCM (Ho Chi Minh City?). This was the point at which Air Traffic Control at Bangkok, HCM, and Kuala Lumpur lost contact with MH370, when the pilot turned off the radio and all other responders on the plane. However, as the red line shows, Malaysian Military Radar still had the plane in its sights until just past Penang and then again in the Andaman Sea. Butterworth Airbase, near Penang, which the RAAF shares with the Malaysian Airforce, also picked it up for a short while twice, probably as it flew out of Kuala Lumpur over the Gulf of Thailand, and then when it turned round and went towards Penang.

                HCM is in South Vietnam. That may be a little south of the turning point of MH370, but that point is certainly not 'north of Vietnam', which extends a long way north past Hanoi at the top of the Gulf of Tonkin.

                In the next paragraph FR24 refer to the 'handshakes .... leading to the current search area in the southern Indian Ocean', but that takes no account of the fact that the handshakes pointed to a northern and a southern arc.

                Arising out of this, my questions are:
                1. Why was the northern arc never searched properly?
                2. Why was it abandoned so quickly?
                3. Why don't FR24 refer to it?
                4. The glossary defines ELT as Emergency Locator Transmitter. "Activated automatically upon impact, the ELT emits distress signals ... to locate the aircraft's position swiftly". Can the ELT be turned off with the other aircraft information systems as Zahiri is supposed to have done?
                5. I have not come across a reference to ELT in all the reading and research I have done. If there was no ELT transmission from MH370, why was that?
                6. I know there were supposed to be some bleeps from the 'black box', but as I understand it, they were never verified. There would be no emission of ELT if the plane were safely landed somewhere, would there?
                7. As far as I know there have never been any details of what the mega spyware kept by the USA at Pine Gap in Australia, and on Diego Garcia, knew about MH370. They can monitor almost anything almost anywhere on the planet. If MH370 turned south when it passed the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, it was about 1800 miles from Diego Garcia. If it flew south, and if it passed east of Diego Garcia, it was only about 1000 miles away, and if it reached the search area west of Perth, it was within range of Pine Gap too. Am I wrong about all of that?
                8. Has anyone asked the USA what it knows about the plane? If so, what did the Americans say?
                I'd be glad if someone at FR24, or any of its members or contributors, could answer these questions.
