    Oops - no; the route it flew took it over Luton. Sadly, it then flew up the M1, missing my little patch of sky completely.

    Was that for navigation purposes ... like they used to do with Sopwith Scouts and railway lines in France?

    Quite possibly, with a 1920's AA routemap flapping on their lap.

    Today, of course, the ATC Gawds are routing northbound traffic close to me. And she's heading south - just popped up on FR - http://www.flightradar24.com/ADB5983/3901e7a
