We have a very busy flying season this Autumn/Winter, particularly coastal.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but the following planes REV4ND and REV6AF are flying over the East Durham from around midnight - quite noisy planes too.

Hi domwlive, Our apologies for any inconvenience or disturbance this caused you. We capture aerial survey data of England, which is used for flood risk mapping. Every year we survey thousands of square kilometres of England to produce detailed digital height models. The locations we survey are chosen based upon which areas are most at risk or where the greatest need is for up to date topographical data. Unfortunately due to operational constraints, many of our aerial surveys have to be conducted from an altitude of between approximately 2,500ft and 10,000ft above ground level and often at night. For this particular survey area the data was required to be captured at low tide, which further restricted our flight plans.

We are the Environment Agency’s remote sensing team and it's our job to capture aerial survey data of England, which is used for, amongst other things flood mapping and environmental monitoring.

More information can be found on the Environment Agency's blog entitles High flyers - tales from the aerial survey team (sorry I am unable to include a link)

We are in our winter LIDAR capture season now and will be flying large parts of the country between now and April.

What would be the similar aircarft but jet engines. Saw one few minutes ago didn't register in the free be android app.

Would imagine it could be a police spotter plane and take off from Bournemouth or whereever they send there planes from.

I got stuck out in the forest once and they sent a plane out to find me.

Sorry it's and old post maybe no ones following it.
