  • The Aircraft Description???

Can anyone tell me a novice, what the numbers refer to after the aircraft type, for example: 777-236? 0r 777-332? (ER) and other types of airbus A340-642? and Boeing 737-8JP ?
Are the numbers, the maximum number of passengers that can be carried on the plane?
    Many thanks - Fr. Anthony

My understanding is that ,for example, a B737-838 (which is one used by Qantas) means that it is a Boeing 737-800 series and is designated as a '38' layout (which may be the same for other airlines as well). The layout is in general specified by the customer.

Virgin Atlantic use an Airbus A34o-642 which is an A340-600 series with a '42' style layout.

The 'ER' is an extended range model but I havent come across the 'JP' perhaps some one else may be able to help with that. It may be that when they run out of numbers they turn to letters but I'd stand corrected on that.

    Regards,
    Gregg

Thanks for the information Gregg. I thought it meant the number of seats on the plane then got confused when there was a letter beside the numbers...

        Yep.

        And also manufacturer code.

IE 777-3FX is etihads fleeet and configuration

777-300 series, and FX = etihad

Much the same how our ANZs are -319s.. 300 and 19 = NZ

F usually is Freight, M is combi, as a lot can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_747 But is there any site that explains the: 406, 412, 446, HVF etc...? Or if
