Red face Lufthansa also into Bio-fuel

    Hi

    http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stori...096266/1/.html

The biofuel is to be supplied by a Finnish company and will cost "between three to five times more than kerosene," according to Joachim Buse, who is leading the test.

utta waste of time then if all this Bio-fuel gona cost more than kerosene, it's not going to save any airline money what so ever, it is down to the Engine makers to come up with a engine that will save the airline money per seat per mile

    Biofuel blend for jets OK'd

LONDON -- Airlines have won the backing of a U.S.-based technical-standards group to power their planes with a blend of traditional fuel and biofuel from inedible plants, the Air Transport Association said Thursday.

Fuel processed from organic waste or nonfood materials, such as algae or wood chips, may comprise as much as 50 percent of the total fuel burned to power passenger flights, ATA spokesman Steve Lott and a Boeing official said.

SEATTLE, June 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing (NYSE: BA) will fly the new 747-8 Freighter to its international air show debut in a doubly historic fashion, flying the airplane across the Atlantic Ocean to the Paris Air Show using a renewable aviation jet fuel – the world's first transatlantic crossing of a commercial jetliner using biologically derived fuel.

Biofuel-powered jet flies across the Atlantic

The Honeywell-operated Gulfstream G450 jet left Morristown, N.J., at 9 p.m. on Friday and landed at Le Bourget airport outside Paris

Paris 2011: Honeywell Record Flight Brings Biofuel to the Paris Air Show

"Honeywell made history here in Paris on Saturday morning, landing its Gulfstream G450 jet at Le Bourget after the first transatlantic flight using biofuel. The trip’s green credentials can be measured in the 5.5 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) saved in the course of the seven-hour flight from the New York-area Morristown Airport.
In fact, the aircraft crossed the Pond only partly powered by biofuel. The G450’s fuel system was set so that number-one (left) engine burned a 50/50 blend of “Honeywell Green Jet Fuel” and standard jet-A fuel, while the other engine consumed pure jet-A."
