  • Weird Problem with Tracks

I have noticed with some a/c and helis around the ABZ area that the tracks do not match the map, and I don't mean by just a few feet, I mean by abut 0.25 of a mile at times (confirmed by having a/c taxi through houses and gardens on the track)

The weird thing about this problem is that it is not happening to all a/c.

Flightaware's lat/long data matches the correct a/c position (assuming the a/c did in fact touch down on the runway) so I can only presume that the translation between the radar and the software is introducing a skew.

Maybe the radar needs rebooting and refreshing, I don't know, its only a theory but does anyone have any ideas as to why its happening and to why its only happening to some but not all a/c?

It is GPS Positional drift, this common on older Aircraft, i have checked ABZ and the Helicopters i checked appear to have correct position showing which was confirmed by ATF NDB.

There is another thread with screen shots showing the same problem: http://forum.flightradar24.com/threa...-maybe-testing

I have just watched http://www.flightradar24.com/EZY66HL land, the Aircraft was showing perfectly down the centre-line of Runway and was central on the Taxiway to the Terminal Building.

The position of Aircraft at ABZ should be very accurate as the Receiver F-EGPD1 is a Flightradar24 unit with built in GPS.

More than a few times I have watched aircraft landing at Styal, about a mile south of Manchester. And I have also watched BA flights bimbling around West Drayton in the past.
      Amusing!

Yeah, I noticed the Heli's were showing a perfect track. And todays one that I've noticed is correct. The 2 Speedbirds this morning were right but the KLC was offset. I have noticed however that the offset, when there is one, is exactly the same for each a/c.

Doesn't bother me if it's a couple of hundred yards off - as long as the approximate position is close enough that the bird can be ID'd
