Stephen, which feeder are you exactly - I can't seem to locate your previous post? F-YBSU1 is actually located out Chinchilla way on the Darling Downs - bloody long way from the Sunny Coast - there have been posts about it, including from the operator, elsewhere on this forum in earlier times. I'd expect that it is one of the key feeders currently providing MLAT coverage over SE Qld because of it's remarkable range. Cheers.

Edit: Sorry just found the post and see that you are T?-YSBU3 - I have not seen you yet - I'll keep an eye out. John.

    • Yes John, T-YBSU3 is me. You will see me for fleeting glimpses (dont blink) and then im gone again. Taken over by F-YBSU1 or
T-MLAT3. Even F-YBSU2 but thats where i lose aircraft. I applied for FR24 gear 10 or so weeks ago, hence my cheap setup. Sux to lose planes so close. Was hoping to see them put down on runway and taxi. Setup tells me ive 280 miles coverage but obviously not fast enough. When i win lotto i will just buy a box. I dont really care who shows as the radar so long as it gives the coverage. Being so close to Airport and still not have my info is a bit of a let down really.

      • Active Australian Feeders

For anyone who is interested, the following is a list of Aussie feeders that I have actually spotted in the past six weeks or so. I have no doubt that there are others, particularly private T feeders who may operate only now and again or more likely are being beaten to the punch by newer FR24 feeders in their vicinity. There are also a few FR24 feeders that have been notified over time that have never appeared or have subsequently disappeared.

My reason for compiling the list is to try to get an idea of where feeders are actually located because there is ongoing discussion in this very thread about the adhoc way in which airport codes are applied to feeders that are nowhere near that airport. I am also interested in mapping the FR24 coverage in Australia because despite the 115 odd feeders on this list there are still glaring holes in various parts of the country and this list is the first step.

Where I have nominated an actual location for a feeder, that declaration is based on either the operator having disclosed the information in this forum or by observation of planes - it seems a fair assumption that if a feeder can get planes down to ground level at it's nominated airport (or some other airport!) then it is located pretty close to that airport.

If any feeders would like to share their actual locations or indeed any errors etc in the list please make a post here. Does not have to be too precise and certainly no GPS co-ords unless you want unexpected visitors. Apologies if the table does not translate accurately in upload. Thanks and cheers. John

              • airnrail, just a suggestion:

Perhaps you can adopt the Australia Feeder Station List from speedbird?

All about feeding data to Flightradar24 (The Flightradar24 receiver, Raspberry Pi and Windows feeding software). No discussions about Flightradar24 web or apps.

Then you can edit them and add along feeder location?

Umm, not sure either. I notice that I am not approved for Private Messages, otherwise we could PM the details. Maybe you could scan the pages as an jpeg, then insert the image.

PM's have been disabled for everyone

Use the icons just above the text entry box to attach pictures / videos - easiest if you select [Go Advanced] below the text entry box.

                      Geoff
Apologies if this doesn't make much sense

First step I do is to strip off the 7c (for Australia) and convert the last 4 characters to decimal
eg for the one I converted earlier (7c4396) hex 4396 equates 17302 in decimal

                      Secondly, although there are (obviously) 26 characters in our alphabet they're using 36 for each "column" (so VH-AAA = 0 decimal = 7c0000 and VH-AAZ = 25 decimal = 7c0019 but the next in sequence VH-ABA = 36 decimal = 7c0024)
Therefore to work out the first letter divide by 1296 (36*36)

in our example 17302/1296=13.3503 - take the number before the decimal point (13) and because they started with 7c0000 = VH-AAA it means A=0, B=1, C=2 etc
Therefore the number 13 maps to the 14th letter of the alphabet, which is N

For the 2nd letter, multiply the integer value we got in the first equation by 1296 (ie 13 * 1296) and subtract that from the original number ( 17302 - (13 * 1296)) = 454
Then divide by 36 (12.6111) and once again take the number before the decimal point (12) which maps to the 13th letter of the alphabet, M

For the 3rd letter multiply the integer value we got in the second equation by 36 (ie 12 * 36) and subtract that from the second number ( 454 - (12 * 36)) = 22
22 maps to the 23rd letter of the alphabet, W

                      hence 7c4396 maps to VH-NMW

Going back the other way is of course much easier.
For each letter find out what position of the alphabet it is in and subtract 1.
Then multiply the first letter by (36*36), the 2nd letter by 36 and add the 3rd letter
                      so for VH-NMW N=13, M=12, W=22
                      (13 * 36 * 36) + (12 * 36) + 22 = 17302 which is 4396 hex, hence the ICAO hex code is 7c4396

And... here's some Perl code that does all the heavy lifting...
                      - Matt

Yeah I'm intending to do that soon - just want to find out about any others that are out there, errors etc first. There's not previously been a really accurate list of Aussie feeders in my view Cheers.

G'day Stephen. Among all the places in Oz that need better ground coverage, Maroochy would be high on my list. Gold Coast also in same category until recently but a FR24 box there seems to have fixed it. I don't know the ins and outs of getting these because I don't feed (I have a lousy location with lots of obstacles and F-YBSU1 is pretty close to me anyway) but perhaps others here can give you a few tips. Seems like a no-brainer to me when you see some of the other places that have less traffic and sometimes more than one FR24 feeder. Cheers John
