  • Aerosvit's bankruptcy strands hundreds

The Ukrainian airline was the seventh largest carrier at Ben Gurion Airport in 2012 and was used for follow-on flights.

The bankruptcy of Ukrainian carrier Aerosvit Airlines has left hundreds of Israelis worried about losing payments for reservations. Many Israelis used the airline to make follow-on flights from Kiev to destinations in North America and the Far East, because of its low fares. According to the Israel Airports Authority, Aerosvit carried 290,000 passengers to and from Ben Gurion Airport in January-November 2012, 15% more than in the corresponding period of 2011. It was the seventh largest carrier at the airport last year.
In December, Aerosvit cancelled almost all of its flights from Ben Gurion Airport and follow-on flights. On Monday, hundreds of Chabad hassids were stranded in Kiev, because of a cancelled flight. The Israel Tourism and Travel Agents Association says that passengers who bought tickets through agencies should receive their money back within 60 days from the date of purchase.

AeroSvit cancels number of flights on Jan. 9

AeroSvit Airline has cancelled a number of arriving and departing flights on January 9, 2013.

The airline cancelled the following departing flights: VV21 for Simferopol, VV207 for Warsaw, VV485 for Minsk, VV229 for Athens, VV461 for Yerevan, VV233 for Bucharest, and VV13 for Odesa.

The airline also cancelled the following arriving flights: VV210 for Prague, VV24 from Simferopol, VV486 from Minsk, VV234 from Bucharest, VV230 from Athens, VV18 from Odesa, and VV462 from Yerevan.

As reported, AeroSvit was forced to cancel a number of flights on January 5-8 due to the suspension of their servicing at some airports, particularly in Warsaw, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Tel Aviv, the press service of the company said.

The grounding of the airline's aircraft at the airports, in turn, restricted AeroSvit's possibility of ensuring the timely implementation of flights to other destinations.

"The decision of airports and handling companies was caused by distorted information in some online mass media about the alleged declaring of AeroSvit bankrupt. Contractors, according to their requests, feared that the Ukrainian carrier may terminate operations and payment for the services rendered," reads a company press release.

Due to this, AeroSvit sent a written notice to all partner companies that it is intending to continue operations and fulfill its current liabilities.

AeroSvit also said that the airline's appeal to the Economic Court of Kyiv region with a request to initiate bankruptcy is aimed at launching the procedure of reorganization, restoring the company's solvency and ensuring the company fulfills its obligations to creditors in full.

AeroSvit was created in 1994. It is based at Boryspil airport in Kyiv. It serves 80 international destinations in 34 countries. It provides services to passengers in the largest cities of Ukraine. Its fleet consists of 28 Boeing aircraft, including 20 medium-range Boeing 737s and eight long-haul Boeing 767s. In addition to that, it operates Airbus 320, Airbus 321, Embraer 145, Embraer 190, and ATR-72 aircraft.

Ukraine's Aerosvit begins operating scheduled flights

KIEV. January 14. KAZINFORM Kiev's Borispol airport does not report any delays flights on Monday. Ukraine's major aviation company, Aerosvit, started operating all scheduled flights, the airport's press service said.

A week earlier, Aerosvit had to cancel many of its flights, including from Stockholm, Warsaw, Tel Aviv, Ho Chi Minh, Beijing and other cities. Besides, the company stopped operating domestic flights both departing and arriving.

On January 10, Aerosvit's jets were replaced by Ukraine's International Airlines' planes to serve flights from Kiev to Prague, Baku, Astana and Tbilisi. Earlier, the Ukrainian International Airlines' press service reported about consultations with state management to offer a plan of necessary measures to restore a normal functioning of commercial civil aviation.

Presently, Aerosvit began passing its assets to Ukraine's International Airlines, which has already obtained two Boeing 737-800 NG from the company. Now, the Ukrainian International Airlines may add to the destinations net flights to Russia, Eastern and Southern Europe, Scandinavian countries, the CIS and Middle Asia, the company's Executive Director Evgeny Treskunov said. The Ukrainian International Airlines have begun selling tickets for the summer period for ten international destinations, which formerly were served by Aerosvit.

Another aviation carrier, also a member of the Ukrainian Aviation Group, company Dnepravia /of Dnepropetrovsk/ is announced to have stopped serving flights. A meeting of the company's shareholders is due on January 15. The shareholders will discuss future of the company as well as that of the chartered capital of the International Airport of Donetsk company.

On December 29, 2012, upon considering a petition from the foresaid air company, the Arbitration Court of the Kiev Region launched the court proceedings in the bankruptcy of the air company. Meanwhile, the court ruled to launch the procedure of the AeroSvit property crisis management. The court hearings are scheduled at a preparatory court session on January 23.

The debts of the air company to the creditors reached about 533 million dollars as of December 27, 2012.

AeroSvit paid part of its debt to Russia

Moscow - The State Corporation for the Organization of Air Traffic in the Russian Federation (ORvD) has lifted restrictions for the air navigation servicing of Kyiv-based AeroSvit Airline from January 15 to January 24, 2013, as the airline has paid a part of its debt for servicing, reads the report of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency.

AeroSvit paid the debt of $521,000 for October to the ORvD, and the term of paying the debt of $697,000 for November will expire on January 24, 2013.

"Taking into account the payment of the debt for October 2012 by the carrier, the ORvD decided to lift restrictions for provision of air navigation services to AeroSvit's aircraft from 0000 Moscow time on January 15, 2013 until January 24, 2013," reads the report.

The ORvD in late December 2012 suspended servicing of the Ukrainian airline due to a debt of $1.5 million. The airline paid the debt.

AeroSvit suspends flights between Kyiv and Moscow

Kyiv-based AeroSvit Airline from January 15, 2013 suspended flights on the Kyiv-Moscow-Kyiv route and proposed that passengers take the flights of its partners or apply for ticket refunds as foreseen in air transportation rules, the press service of the airline has reported.

The press service said that the decision was made as the airline's participation in the BSP system of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has been suspended, including the BSP Russia system. The commercial burden on the airline's flights from and to Moscow has considerably fallen, which prevents the effective exploitation of the route.

On January 10, 2013, IATA informed AeroSvit that it had had to instruct the regional IATA BSP systems to suspend payments with agents for the sale of tickets for the airline's flights via the BSP system.

The IATA also said that it recommended agents switch to direct bilateral payments with the airline.

"AeroSvit has expressed regret over the IATA's decision, which violated the mechanism for cooperation of the airline with agents of the BSP system in over 50 countries," read a report of the airline.

AeroSvit also expects that the size of the deposit demanded by IATA as a condition for the prolongation of its participation in the BSP system to a level in line with the current route network of the airline.

Before the resumption of servicing in the IATA BSP system, AeroSvit plans to use alternative distribution channels, including its own online sales and direct payments with airlines and agents.

"After the launch of the alternative ticket sale system, AeroSvit plans to resume flights to Moscow," reads the carrier's press release.

Before the suspension of the Kyiv-Moscow flights, the airline performed four daily flights on the route to Shevemetyevo airport.

As reported, referring to Head of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine Anatoliy Kolesnik, AeroSvit Airline from January 15, 2013 and until the end of the winter schedule 2013 will almost fully suspend its domestic flights.

"The Kyiv-Ivano-Frankivsk and Kyiv-Dnipropetrovsk flights will be performed from January 15 until the end of March," he said.

The airline's press service said that the rest of the domestic flights would be performed under code sharing agreements with partners.

On January 14, 2013, the airline said that the reduced flight network of the airline becomes regular. The new schedule could be changed. The airline asked its clients to check for updates on its Web site.

AeroSvit to service 6 routes itself by late January

Kyiv-based AeroSvit Airline has introduced a temporary schedule of flights from January 16 to January 31, 2013, according to which the airline will operate six routes: four international ones and two domestic, reads a press release of the company.

The press release says that it will continue performing long-haul flights to New York, Bangkok and Beijing. The flight schedule for Beijing could be optimized for the period of the celebration of the Chinese New Year.

The airline will also service routes between Kyiv and Ivano-Frankivsk and Dnipropetrovsk.

The servicing of some routes will be suspended. From January 23, 2013 AeroSvit is to finish the program of flights to Ho Chi Minh City and Goa due to the end of the period of active tourism season after the winter holidays.

From January 16, 2013, the airline will also cancel flights to St. Petersburg and Istanbul due to the reduction of commercial loading on the flights to the cities, in turn due to the suspension of AeroSvit's participation in the IATA BSP system, although the company will continue flying to and from Tashkent.

Earlier, from January 15, 2013, the airline stopped servicing the Kyiv-Moscow route for the same reason.

According to the report, AeroSvit will continue bringing back passengers of flights that were canceled.

As reported, on January 10, 2013, IATA informed AeroSvit that it had had to instruct the regional IATA BSP systems to suspend payments with agents for the sale of tickets for the airline's flights via the BSP system.

The IATA also said that it recommended agents switch to direct bilateral payments with the airline.

"It will take some time to build the alternative ticket sales system via direct payments with airlines and agents. After the launch of the system, AeroSvit plans to resume the operation of some routes," AeroSvit said earlier.

                  AeroSvit banned from Russian airspace

Russia’s Air Traffic Management Corp. has banned Ukrainian carrier AeroSvit from operating flights in the country’s airspace. The ban was effective Jan. 25. Russia’s aviation authorities said the carrier was ordered to pay $697,000 for November’s air navigation services before Jan. 24 but the carrier did not meet the deadline.

AeroSvit, which filed for bankruptcy Dec. 29, had said it would continue to operate, but earlier this month the airline began announcing flight bans and delays. In January, Air Traffic Management Corp. said AeroSvit’s debt had reached $1.5 million, which has been partially paid.

Late last year, Russian authorities and Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport threatened to cancel AeroSvit flights several times because of the debt dispute. In December, Sheremetyevo Airport banned the carrier’s flights for several days but flights were resumed later.
