  • Wheather information at athe airport - how to understand it?

After you click on the blue badge at the airport, you see a window with the closest departures and arrivals. At the bottom of this window there are the weather conditions, and under them there is information that I copied at the bottom (it comes from Krakow Balice Airport (Poland):

    EPKK 040600Z 27007KT 240V300 6000 BKN009 16/14 Q1005 (about 6.30 a.m. UTC)
    EPKK 040830Z 23006KT 8000 BKN016 17/14 Q1005 (9.25 a.m. UTC)

What does this mean exactly? I just know that "EPKK" is the ICAO code of the airport, "27007KT" is the wind direction and speed (here, the wind direction of 270 degrees at 7 knots), and "Q1005" is pressure in hPa above sea level. And how am I to understand the rest? I did not find help anywhere online.

These are what's called a METAR and here's what these two mean:

    EPKK is the airport code
040600Z - date time group for the observation ie 4th April at 6am GMT(Zulu time)
    27007KTS - Wind is 270° at 07 knots
    240V300 - wind was 240° veering 300°
    6000 - visibility 6000 metres or 6 km
BKN009 - Cloud is Broken at 900 ft
    16/14 - Temperature 16° C / Dew Point 14° C
    Q1005 - Barometric Pressure QNH 1005 mb

The second one was taken at 0830 GMT
    23006KT - Wind 230° at 6 knots
    8000 - Vis 8000 mtrs
    BKN016 - Cloud Broken at 1600 ft
    17/14 - Temp 17° C / Dew Point 14° C
    Q1005 - QNH 1005 mb

I found this decoder that may come in handy: http://heras-gilsanz.com/manuel/METAR-Decoder.html

You can read about METAR on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/METAR
And I can recommend this page for decoding metars: http://www.metarreader.com/

Thanks a lot. Now I need just to learn it by heart . I can already read simple METAR datas (like these I had written).

Hello, can you give more space for METAR data in airport info?
          Cuz now in Boryspil we have "UKBB 310700Z 18008MPS 0700 R18L/1200D R18R/0550V0800D +SHSN BLSN VV006 M03/M03 Q1002 18551035 68//99// TEMPO 0600 +SHSN BKN002 BKN010CB" But displaying only "UKBB 310700Z 18008MPS 0700 R18L/1200D R18R/0550V0800D +SHSN BLSN VV006 M03/M03 Q1002 18551035 68//99// TEMPO 060..."
title code is OK, but simple text is croped

The link below is what I use regularly as it has the raw METAR on the left and the much more reader friendly (for us novices) english translation on the right, and also includes forecasts as well as the TAF (Terminal Area Forecast) around the immediate vicinity of the airport (which area varies from airport to airport). In fact you can look up just about any city in the world that has an airport (I've checked quite a few). Obviously I've got it set for my area, all you need do is look up your area thence city and save the link. Eventually you start to understand their meaning, although I got a kick-start from a pilot on the chat which helped immensely.

METAR TAF : Current weather observation and Forecast, Sydney Sydney Airport Australia

in the above post by Hebwx the line '240V300' is wind from 240 degrees varying 300 degrees but i think that's what he meant, just a typo

If you use the link I've posted above for pm1234 and simply select your area and city (and save it) you dont need to worry about the abbreviated info on the FR24 airport tab that would perhaps require enlarging too much to accomodate ALL info just for the odd airport.

              Gregg

Why when you click on a airport to get flight Arrivals/Departures information, the local weather is always showing sun symbol.
Today in London it is complete cloud cover so why it shows sun symbol i don't know.
Hopefully somebody at Flightradar24 can rectify this so that the appropriate weather symbol is shown for the actual weather conditions.
                  Thanks
