    Frankfurt Airport opens new runway

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Frankfurt Airport inaugurates its long-awaited fourth runway Friday after a euro760 million ($1.05 billion) construction project that involved building taxiways over a busy road, planting hundreds of acres of replacement trees and relocating wildlife including frogs and salamanders.
The first user of the landings-only strip is expected to be Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose government plane is scheduled to land before the ceremonies.
The airport says the new runway, parallel to two existing ones but about a mile (1.5 kilometers) away, will boost capacity by 50 percent, from 83 takeoffs and landings per hour to a potential 126, and from the current 53 million passengers a year to 88.6 million by 2020. The airport says it now has peak demand that it can't meet of up to 100 takeoffs and landings.

Frankfurt - German Chancellor Angela Merkel opened an extension to Frankfurt international Airport Friday, landing her government jet on a new fourth runway that will help the hub keep up the pace with London's Heathrow and Paris's Charles de Gaulle. The project was overshadowed by a bitter dispute with local residents, who won a last minute court injunction banning all night flights at Germany's main Airport
Merkel's air-force pilots landed her Airbus on schedule, and the chancellor, who has assailed conservationists who hold up nationally important infrastructure projects, emerged to congratulate airport staff.

Question regarding the map FRA airport

Frankfurt Int'l has a new runway (07L / 25R - for landings only), but it is not located on the map. So it seems, all landing a/c are going down in the green behind the airfield. Is there any update by the distributor of the map planned?

More funnier for me is the the fact, the name of Mainz is displayed in French ("Mayence"). The french occupation of Mainz was long before. I want to see the responsible back in school.

The maps comes from Google Maps. You have to ask Google for questions regarding Google Maps.

Planes are landing in the forest because the new runway isn't visible so far on Flightradar 24.

The map is provided by Google Maps. I have no ideas how often Google updates the maps, but in worst case I guess that satellite pictures can take years to update.

    Google Maps

You're right, this can really take several years. But maybe they update it more often because of the Frankfurt metropolitan region.

Those Google images are so old that I don't expect them to update them in the next ten years.

The place I live for five years now is not existing, the stadium has been rebuilt but Google shows the old stadium...

Google is not interested in Frankfurt.

It has nothing to do with Frankfurth. The world is really really big, and big parts of the world don't have detailed satellite images. I think that a new runway in that perspective is quite uninteresting from Google point of view.
