Ryanair begins to pull out of Alicante with 22 cancelled routes

RYANAIR, El Altet’s largest carrier, has announced the imminent cancellation of 57 direct flights from Alicante linking a number of European cities, representing a 40% reduction in service affecting around 2.5 million passengers.
The move is the result of Ryanair’s battle with airport authority AENA’s insistence that the airline board passengers via air bridges and not from the ground. Ryanair protests that boarding passengers via air bridges affects their impressive 25 minute turnaround and also their ‘no frills’ service, and would result in pushing up fares.
The most significant cancellations will inconvenience 1,000 passengers per week using the Alicante – Zaragoza route. The reduction from 11 to 2 aircraft this winter (5 aircraft based in winter 2010), reduces passenger traffic at El Altet from 4m passengers p.a. to 1.5m.

Philippine Airlines cuts flights, ground crew

The savings all over is becoming more clearly, many cutbacks passed week !!!!

Flag-carrier Philippine Airlines said Saturday it would temporarily slash flight frequencies over the next two months as part of a cost-saving programme that would also eliminate 2,600 jobs.
Eleven flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok, New Delhi, Macau, Singapore, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Guam, Sydney, Melbourne and Incheon would be affected from October 1, or 12 percent of the international total, a PAL statement said.
Thirty percent of local flights would be suspended as catering, ground handling and call centre reservations are farmed out to third-party service providers, PAL spokeswoman Cielo Villaluna said.

Cyprus Airways axes flights to Manchester

CYPRUS AIRWAYS (CY) has axed flights to Manchester, scheduling the last Larnaca-Manchester flight for the end of the month and leaving customers scrambling for new flights.
The airline’s management decided last Friday to cut the four flights a week from Larnaca to Manchester as of October 31, citing low bookings, but has yet to issue a public announcement, leaving holiday-makers and customers guessing as to what will happen to their already purchased tickets.

Dubai flights open Seattle-India gateway (cargo)

Emirates Airlines undoubtedly hopes to fill its private first-class suites and lie-flat business class beds with execs from Boeing, Microsoft and Starbucks. But the lucrative market for shipping medical supplies, airplane parts and video games played a huge role in its decision to begin service between Seattle and Dubai next March.
Given the gloomy economic times, why would Emirates, the luxury Middle Eastern airline, pick now to announce new daily, nonstop flights between Seattle and Dubai starting March 1?
I once flew on a nearly empty United Airlines flight from Chicago to Buenos Aires, Argentina. "It wouldn't matter if we didn't sell any of the seats," the flight attendant told me. Cargo was the big moneymaker.
