Answer and Point of View from Simon in Avherald, about Times of India
I monitor other way more reliable sources in India. In this case of the
"mid-air collection" even my monitored sources carry the story but reporting
that the DGCA/CAA does NOT investigate, and this is clearly an indication
that there was nothing or at worst a false TCAS RA.
While there probably was a TCAS RA (not even that is yet verified!) the rest
of the story as carried in India is complete and utter nonsense and a
complete distortion of the events by some passenger who doesn't know anything
about aviation grossly aggravated by journalists sensationalising their story
(and thus making it completely incredible/unbelievable).
No near collision, no nothing, not even loss of separation. There may have
been a (false) TCAS resolution however, definitely nothing I would report (I
am not going to undermine TCAS at all at all despite the fact that there are
situations where TCAS can produce false warnings and resolutions).
The Times of India is one of the worst yellow press products around the
globe, worse than UK, worse than the German Bild, ... It's the largest
newspaper in India, and is not at all held accountable for their reports
(unlike UK, Germany, ... where certain accountability is assured by justice).
Servus, Simon

Hm....
"A Federal Aviation Administration official says the agency stands by its findings that there was an engine fire aboard an American Airlines jet that made an emergency landing at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport."
"American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said earlier Monday that a warning light indicated there was an engine fire but that an examination determined there was none. He later said the airline is still investigating the matter."
Smith says passengers may have mistaken the vapor trail left by fuel being dumped for smoke. He says several tires blew during the landing but that the gear didn't catch fire.
