Hawaiian Airlines to Purchase 16 Airbus A321neos

Hawaiian Airlines signed an agreement with Airbus to acquire 16 A321neo aircraft, a $2.8 billion value at current list prices.



The aircraft are scheduled for delivery between 2017 and 2020, and the agreement includes options for an additional nine A321neos. The airline said the new planes will be used on long-haul flights between Hawaii and the west coast.

"This is a significant investment in the future of both Hawaiian and Hawai'i. Our tourism-based economy and local employment will benefit as we continue our strategy of diversifying our business while improving the efficiency of our operation," said Mark Dunkerley, CEO of Hawaiian Airlines.

The agreement with Airbus is contingent upon Hawaiian signing new agreements with its pilots and flight attendant unions regarding operation of the new aircraft type.

Ryanair in talks with Boeing for 200 new planes

Michael O'Leary said Ryanair is in the market for about 200 new planes as the low-cost airline's fleet is poised to reach 300 Boeing 737-800 jets later this year.

Ryanair is in talks with Boeing, he added during a press conference in Oslo.

"Boeing have plenty of availability in the order book," Mr O'leary said. "We are in the fairly early stages of talks to see if we can reach an agreement on price."

Mr O'Leary said that Ryanair is looking for deliveries in 2015, 2016 and 2017 – the year that Boeing's upgraded 737 Max jetliner is due to enter service.

The Ryanair boss said that a new order was possible this year to help expand passenger numbers to 120 million.

"We are talking to 60 new airports we do not fly to it, some in Israel, we are inundated with requests and airport deals at the moment. We are frankly less enthused by Russia, Ukraine and those countries at the moment."

Mr O'Leary predicted that the incumbent carriers in Scandinavia and Poland won't survive in their current form amid competition from domestic and foreign low-cost rivals.

SAS Group, which owns Scandinavian Airlines, can't continue to rely on funding from Sweden, Denmark and Norway and is most likely to end up as a unit of Deutsche Lufthansa, while Poland's LOT has little room to pare operations that are already much reduced, Mr O'Leary said.

Airbus announces £620m order from Middle East Airlines

AIRBUS today announced a £620million order from Middle East Airlines-Air Liban (MEA), the flag carrier of Lebanon, for 10 A320neo Family aircraft.

MEA will announce its engine choice at a later date.

Chairman Mohamad El Hout said: “Airbus' A320neo Family is the ideal choice for an airline such as Middle East Airlines.

“An aircraft offering fuel burn saving, high reliability as well as a modern and comfortable cabin is a sound investment in anyone's books.”

Airbus customers boss John Leahy added: “Middle East Airlines is going to be well positioned with these A320neo Family aircraft in its fleet to maintain its record as one of the most successful airlines in the dynamic Middle East region.

“We are convinced the NEO will deliver on its promises as the most fuel efficient single aisle aircraft and look forward to seeing MEA taking full advantage of all the benefits this aircraft offers.”

Airbus wins significant Turkish order

Airbus has signed a £7.4 billion deal with Turkish low-cost airline Pegasus. It will deliver 75 A320neo and A321neo aircraft between 2015 and 2022, with an option for a further 25. The wings of the aircraft are manufactured at its Broughton site in Flintshire.

A signing ceremony was held at the customer’s headquarters in Istanbul. Airbus executive vice-president Christopher Buckley, who is responsible for Europe and Asia
Pacific, said: “Turkey is rapidly developing into Europe’s most dynamic commercial aviation market, and Pegasus is one of the major players within this transformation.
We are very proud that Pegasus Airlines has become our newest customer, with such a significant order of new aircraft. We look forward to a long-term partnership.”

The Pegasus aircraft will be configured in an all-economy layout, with 180 seats in the A320neo and 220 seats in the A321neo. They will be deployed on the airline’s rapidly expanding network from Istanbul to destinations in Turkey, Europe and the Middle East.

A few days before this ceremony, Airbus announced that it is to supply Air Asia — the largest low-cost airline in Asia — with 100 A320neo and A320ceo aircraft, safeguarding 1,500 jobs at Airbus and a further 7,500 in the supply chain.

Airbus confirms £4.7bn deal with Singapore Airlines

SINGAPORE Airlines today confirmed an order for 25 widebody jet planes from Airbus in a £4.7billion deal.

The order comprises five double deck A380s and 20 A350-900s, with wings built at the company's Broughton factory.

The aircraft will be operated on the carrier’s long range and regional services.

It follows a £1bn deal Airbus signed with leasing company Avolon earlier this week for 20 Airbus A320neo jets.

Singapore Airlines has now placed three consecutive orders for the A380, making it the second largest customer of the superjumbo, and now has 19 aircraft in service. In the mid-size category, the new A350 XWB order sees the airline double its backlog for the all-new aircraft to 40. The A350-900s will be used by the airline on both medium and long haul routes.

“This second repeat order from one of the largest A380 operators today is a great endorsement” said John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer, Customers, Airbus.

“We’re also delighted that Singapore Airlines are demonstrating equal confidence in the A350. With both these aircraft, Singapore Airlines will have the most modern, most comfortable and most efficient fleet the market can offer.”

Bombardier Delivers 233 and Receives Orders for 481 Aircraft

Canada-based Bombardier Aerospace delivered 233 aircraft during the 2012 calendar year, compared to 245 deliveries in the previous fiscal year, the 11-month period ending December 31, 2011.

The company also received orders for 481 aircraft, net of cancellations, compared to 249 orders, net of cancellations, for the previous fiscal year.

The successful order intake was supported by a number of volume orders for both business and commercial aircraft, including those placed by Delta Air Lines Inc, NetJets Inc, Nordic Aviation Capital and PT Gardua Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, VistaJet and WestJet. The delivery total is in line with the 235 aircraft delivery guidance for business and commercial aircraft that was provided in March 2012.

Guy C Hachey, President and COO, Bombardier Aerospace, commented: “2012 was a year of focus on execution and our employees demonstrated their resilience and commitment by rallying through a challenging economic environment to meet our delivery targets.

“A number of our existing customers reaffirmed their confidence in Bombardier aircraft in 2012 with fleet growth and fleet replenishment orders, and we proudly welcomed new customers from emerging and traditional markets. In calendar year 2012, Bombardier delivered 179 business jets, compared to 163 for the previous fiscal year. During the same period, the company received 343 net orders for business jets, compared to 191.

It delivered 50 commercial aircraft, compared to 78 for the previous 11-month fiscal year. The company received 138 net orders for commercial aircraft, compared to 54 the previous year.

Indonesian Airline Citilink Orders 25 Airbus A320neo Jets

European commercial aircraft builder Airbus said Monday it has booked an order for 25 of its A320neo medium-haul jets from Citilink, the low-cost subsidiary of Indonesian airline Garuda Indonesia (PSEOY).
The order, signed in December, is worth $2.42 billion on the basis of Airbus's price list, although airlines typically negotiate steep discounts for bulk orders.
The A320neo is a re-engined version of the A320 under development that, with Boeing Co.'s (BA) 737, is the workhorse of low-cost airlines.
In 2011, Garuda ordered 15 A320neos for itself and another 10 aircraft for Citilink.
The A320neo is scheduled to enter into service with customer airlines in the autumn of 2015.
Airbus is the commercial aircraft division of European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co. N.V. (EADSY), a European aerospace company.

Korean Air to receive seven new aircraft this year

Korean Air is gearing up to receive seven new aircraft this year: two new A380s, one A330-200, two B777-300ERs and two B737-900ERs, all of which will be used within its long-haul network.
The additional superjumbos, which will bring the carrier’s current fleet of A380s to eight, are scheduled for delivery in July and October and will be used on flights to New York, Los Angeles, Frankfurt and Atlanta.
Currently, Korean Air uses the A380 once a day on its double-daily services to New York (see story here) and on seven out of 17 services per week to Los Angeles. From this month onwards, the A380 will be used 14 and 12 times per week on those routes respectively.
Furthermore, the A380 operated on the Seoul-Frankfurt route for a while last year (see story here) and that is set to resume on February 1 with the double-decker aircraft being used on a daily basis instead of the B777-300.
In August, the A380 will be deployed on the Seoul-Atlanta route on three out of seven flights per week (see story here).

Tunisia's Syphax in $600 mn deal to buy 10 Airbus A320s

CARTHAGE) - Private Tunisian airline Syphax said on Tuesday it has signed an accord with European planemaker Airbus to acquire 10 of its A320 aircraft between 2015 and 2020 in a deal worth $600 million.

"We have just signed two partnership accords with Safran and Airbus. With Airbus, this is for the acquisition of 10 (A320) planes," said the group's CEO Mohamed Frikha.

"It is a long-term contract worth around 600 million dollars" and covering the period from 2015 to 2020, he added.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Tunisia-EU economic consultative council, which took place in a Tunis suburb in the presence of the European Commissioner for industry Antonio Tajani.

Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali and President Moncef Marzouki are due to meet the European Council President, Herman Van Rompuy, later on Tuesday.

Syphax was launched shortly after the revolution that toppled former dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali two years ago, and serves destinations in France, Libya and Turkey.

The EU is the largest trade partner of the north African country, whose economic recovery, after the recession that followed the revolution, has been hampered by the broader economic crisis in Europe.

American Changing Jet Orders With Boeing, Airbus

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- American Airlines says it has renegotiated jet orders with Boeing Co. to save money and in some cases get a slightly smaller, less expensive version of Boeing's new 787 jet.

The 787, which Boeing calls the Dreamliner, was delayed during production and has been beset by problems recently, including a fire aboard a Japan Airlines 787 last week in Boston. Federal safety officials are reviewing the plane's design and production.

American said Monday that it updated deals to buy Boeing 737 and 787 aircraft to save money and move up deliveries of the 787s to November 2014. American said it could substitute up to 20 of the 787-8 planes for 787-9s. The 787-8 is 20 feet shorter, holds up to 250 passengers, and has a list price of $206.8 million, while the 787-9 holds up to 290 passenger and lists for $243.6 million, although airlines routinely get discounts.

American has never said publicly how much it would pay for the planes.

The deal also would settle Boeing claims arising from American's bankruptcy filing. American and Boeing settled on the deal Friday, the same day that the Federal Aviation Administration announced its review of the 787 following the incident in Boston and others including fuel leaks and cracked windshields.

American said it also agreed to changes in delivery dates for planes it will buy from European aircraft maker Airbus.

American and parent AMR Corp. are operating under bankruptcy protection, and the agreements with the plane makers would need approval by the court. A hearing on the changes was set for Jan. 23.

The fleet update comes as American prepares to emerge from bankruptcy protection after more than a year. The airline is considering whether to merge with US Airways Group Inc. or stay on its own.

United Airlines has ordered a new, scimitar-shaped split-winglet designed by Aviation Partners Boeing (APB) as a retrofit for the Boeing 737NG series.

The first retrofitted 737-800 should be delivered after the new winglet achieves airworthiness certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in October, APB says.

It will become the first of eight 737NG configurations targeted for the retrofit programme, APB adds, noting that FAA certification of split scimitar winglets for the 737-900ER is scheduled in March 2014.

Turkish Airlines to order over 100 narrow body planes

ISTANBUL: Turkish Airlines plans to order more than 100 narrow-body planes by the end of March and will finalise five new Airbus A330-300 orders this week on top of 35 wide-body aircraft ordered last year, its chairman told Reuters.

The world's fastest-growing major carrier is a key battleground for the world's dominant planemakers. Last year it ordered wide-body jets from both Airbus and its rival Boeing in deals worth billions of dollars.

"I cannot give an exact number for the narrow-body plane orders, but it will very likely be over 100. We aim to finalise this order by the end of March," Turkish Airlines Chairman Hamdi Topcu said in an interview in his office in Istanbul.

"We ordered 20 Boeing 777-300 and 15 Airbus A330-300 (last year). We want them as soon as possible are in talks to add five more (A330s) to this order. We aim to finalise it this week."

The company, 49 percent owned by the government with the remainder floated on the Istanbul stock exchange, is considering issuing a bond to finance its expansion but a secondary public offering for the airline is not currently on the government's agenda, he said.

Topcu said Turkish Airlines was open to closer ties with Lufthansa under any sort of model that brought mutual benefit, but that there were currently no firm plans.

"The cooperation model with Lufthansa is not yet clear. We are looking into what we can do. We are ready for any such cooperation but no board decision has been taken," he said.

"If the model to be formed is going to be beneficial for both companies, we are open to any kind of talks."

Embraer said on Thursday it signed a deal to provide Republic Airways with 47 E-175 jets, with an option to acquire an additional 47 aircraft.

If all 94 planes were delivered, the value of the contract could reach about USD$4 billion at list prices, Embraer added.

Republic would operate the new aircraft under the American Eagle brand.

Air Pacific takes delivery of first new Airbus A330

NADI, FIJI - Air Pacific (soon to be Fiji Airways) announced that it had successfully taken ownership and delivery of its first-ever brand-new wide body aircraft, the Airbus A330-200.

The aircraft is the first of three ordered by the airline in October 2011- the other two are scheduled to be delivered in May and November, respectively. The transfer of title and delivery ceremony was completed in Toulouse, France on Thursday March 14th with Airbus officials, Air Pacific executives, and Air Pacific's own aircraft delivery team.

The delivery ceremony followed the announcement that the airline's international European banking partners had signed the financing agreement for the first of three new A330-200 aircraft it is purchasing, with a commitment to finance the two additional aircraft due to be delivered in May and November of this year, and plans by the airline to make early repayment of some initial Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) pre-delivery financing.

Ryanair to buy 175 new Boeing planes in deal worth $15.6 billion

Ryanair has signed a deal with Boeing to buy 175 new Next Generation 737-800 airplanes.

The airline said that when finalised, the deal will be worth nearly $15.6 billion at current list prices.

Ryanair said the purchase will allow its airline to grow to more than 400 airplanes.

It will serve more than 100 million passengers a year across Europe by the time all the planes are delivered in 2018.

It added that the deal is the largest ever aircraft order from a European airline

The agreement was signed by Ryanair chief executive Michael O'Leary and Boeing Commercial Airplanes President Ray Conner in New York today.

About 75 of these new aircraft will replace some of Ryanair's existing fleet of 305 Boeing 737s, but Ryanair said the remainder will drive new growth of its fleet of ''young, highly efficient airplanes''.
