  • Why does a plane flying above in the sky appear far on flightradar?

I saw a four engine aircraft in the sky today, so I looked on flightradar24, it was an A380... on the map it looks further, close to the sea which is 30 min. away by car where I live, I am prittey sure that is the right plane, on the map it only shows that plane and another smaller aircraft which I also saw around my area.

The A380 was probably very high eg 35000ft or more . An aircraft at that height can appear, to the naked eye, to be very nearly overhead when it is in fact perhaps 30km or more away from you.The position shown on FR24 will most likely be correct.
