    First let us find out what version of dump1090 you have, as further action depends on that.
    Please give following command and post output.

    apt-cache policy dump1090-mutability

      OK finally got it working!

      I ran - sudo /usr/lib/fr24/install_dump1090.sh

      Got an error message so then I ran:

      sudo dpkg --configure -a

      then sudo reboot and after it came up it seems to be working

        The good news is that I too have finally got it working.

        I emailed FR24 support and they replied quite promptly. It seems that they have been having some problems recently and it seems that I had downloaded my image file during that period. As a result they advised me to download and install the image again.
        I didn't think that would cure the problem, but it did. I had to reformat the SD card and delete the partition, but once I installed the image again, everything came to life and is now feeding well.

        Even so, I would like to say a big thank you to everybody for their help.
