Custom Alert Question

Recently down loaded the "Custom Alert" feature, am particularly interested in being alerted when specific a/c types are in my vicinity. I can enter the type, then am asked if my alert is global or local. When I select local, I'm then asked to identify the area I consider "local" and then am directed to a world map. At this point there is no means to designate any area. How do I do that, and why doesn't "local" default to my then current location per GPS?

Zoom in on the map to your area and set the box width and height and then save the alert. No auto location as far as I can see.

Got that far, but there is no means to "save" the alert location.
