  • Can I use any DVB-T usb stick or does it have to be ADS-B specific [Details inside]

Hello I am looking to set up flightradar24 with my raspberry pi.

Before I buy any equipment I have a quick question.

If I search on eBay for 'ADS-B usb' all the items cost around £20.

If I search for 'DVB-T usb' items start from around £5

Are those items the same? Can I use the £5 'DVB-T usb' or is that different from the more expensive 'ADS-B usb'

They seem to be the same thing but I may be misunderstanding something.

    Thanks for your help

All of the DVBT with R820T/T2 will work. Don't pay too much for the standard sticks, just because the advertise them with ADSB in the heading!

Best low-price / performance are the blue DVBT with R820T2 chipset. They should cost around 8 USD. Search Ebay for "DVBT R820T2", here is an example:

Best performance currently for DVBT sticks are the Flightaware ADSB-specialized sticks.

The blue stick has a SAW filter built in. Search the forums for discussions about which one to choose, it's related to your RF environment.

I moved your post to continue the original question/conversation.

You have left the description off. Probably unable to post links at this early stage, but we only need a portion of it. However as long as the description clearly states RTL2832U + R820T2 it will be suitable.

            Hi guys,

I am using a cheapo blue DVB-T USB stick for my Raspberry Pi, but my receiver is mostly down these days.

I think the receiver is defective. Any suggestions what to get?
