                      Good effort - where's your location?
                      Did you take down the flight details?
                      For a decent image size you need at least 400mm fl on a DSLR - the more the better!

                        Christchurch, New Zealand. I'm running NZCH1 so was able to check back in my logs to see the time and work out the Aircraft/Path

                        Sadly, the cash only stretched as far as a 40D and 70-200L 2.8 do have 1.6 extension but likewise won't make much of a difference. Thats a 1:1 crop too
