  • Multiple antennas at one site for MLAT coverage

    Hi,

I’m rather new into receiver building and installation but still have a rather unique question.

We are a rather small glider airfield inside a valley, preventing especially our traffic pattern from being seen by other receivers. We would like to cover the valley, especially FLARM contacts but also other VFR traffic, not ADS-B equipped.

For FLARM tracking, we only need one antenna, that’s fine. But for MLAT reception, in my understanding, we would need at least 3-4 different antennas at different positions. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

My question is, how far from each other do they need to be to get reasonable accuracy. We have different options, but the maximum distance between the different antennas could be around 500m. Is that enough?

    Thanks for any help,
    regards,
    Jan
