There is a reason why the specialized SDRs have a filter and LNA, it improves reception.

I can see the helicopter going directly over my house and landing about 1km away just fine
I will however get the blue FA dongle and see if the internal amp is enough to give me extra range!

My antenna is in my loft too and I get max range of about 220nm. I'm using the FlightAware antenna with the RTL-SDRv3 Dongle along with their associated triple Filtered LNA. Gain setting currently at 28. You can see my life feed here.... https://radar.clanlawrence.co.uk/
