TIS-B messages can be processed but they may be meaningless as the actual aircraft is hard to identify.
As for ADS-R, you need to be located very close to the rebroadcasting ground station.

The SBS-3 will only receive Mode-S data transmitted on 1090 MHz. That includes those that send positional data and those that do not.
The US uniquely has 978 MHz UAT data but the SBS-3 doesn't handle this.
The FR24 feeder software will only plot those that transmit positional data. So if you pick up a non-positional transmission on your SBS-3, the BaseStation software will show it in the aircraft list but cannot plot it on its map.
The SDR part of the SBS-3 can receive ACARS messages which BaseStation can display in a rudimentary ACARS list but FR24 doesn't use this data.

From the numerous posts on the Kinetic and Radarspotters' forums, there appear to be a few issues with the SBS-3. Some of the advertised features don't appear to be included and the software defined radios are causing a few headaches. Kinetic closed down for 3 weeks just as the SBS-3 started shipping and there are still lots of unanswered questions from early customers.
But those with £500 to spare get an automatic invitation to join the SBS-3 beta testing team.
I for one won't be rushing out to get one.

David Goodman (CEO Kinetic) has posted an SBS-3 update on the Kinetic forum.
Personally, I'm now confused as to what will or will not be included for the advertised price of GBP £499. What decoders and software will be included as "standard" and which will be optional and at what cost?
When the SBS-3 was first announced (via a Radio User magazine exclusive), it was described as a combined ModeS and AIS receiver with two-channel software defined radio for VHF/UHF. The software would run under Windows or Apple MAC and would display ModeS and AIS data on the same screen.
It now appears that the specification is a moving target with slightly blurred features. According to the Radio User article, availability would be September 2011 though Goodman's post claims the first units will be coming off the production line this Wednesday. Assuming these will be subject to extensive beta testing, I suspect the SBS-3 won't be available until early next year and it's anyone's guess what will or won't be included? Maybe ShipTrax will be available before then?

The introduction of the word "optional" has raised a few concerns. Especially as the original SBS-1 was launched with an "options" to connect by Ethernet and use MapModeS (MMS) data sharing.
The Ethernet option became, eventually, an expensive retrofit and MMS never appeared.

Dedicated 1090 MHz Tuner, Plus Two SDR Tuners :- AM / FM / VHF / UHF / 27Mhz - 980 MHZ / = 3 Tuners with 2 Antenna sockets, Filtering spurious signals, how ?
common output for the 3 Tuners ?
