Hi to everybody!
I would like to know if it is possible to see the HB-SIA on flightradar24.com.
It is a prototype of a solar powered plane and the test flights are about to start.
Look at http://www.solarimpulse.com
In fact I have heard they plan to begin the testing from today on at Payerne, Switzerland .
Well I don't really expect that the plane can be seen on radar during the first hops or
aerodrome circlings, but at later stages and higher altitudes it should be possible.
I have done some electronics for the project and I think it would be nice to spot it.
Some facts:
I know it is equipped with a transponder that is capable of "ADS-B via
extended squitter" (whatever that means).
It is a huge plane (wingspan about that of an A340),
but mostly build of carbon fiber material. It will be really slow with an average flight speed of
70km/h (take off speed: 35km/h!) but it will be able to fly at an altitude of 8500m.
So what do you think, would it be visible on flightradar24.com?
Is there additional information needed that has to be entered in a database (like callsign
or something)?
Thanks,
Joerg
