  • Ground vehicles

    Hi Everyone,

    Does anyone have a listing of ground vehicles at all?

    Ground Vehicles.JPG

    Thats what I can see at YSSY (I believe) at the moment - just wondering what they are?

    Cheers

    I don't believe they are ground vehicles. They are probably test transmissions used for calibration or something similar.

    I receive them strongly up in the Blue Mountains, so they are probably coming from Mt Boyce or nearby.

      7CF7CA= SSM1 (Sydney Site Monitoring) located at Centrepoint Tower
      7CF7CB= SSM2 (Sydney Site Monitoring) located at Centrepoint Tower
      7CF7CC= SSM3 (Sydney Site Monitoring) located at Kurrajong Heights
      7C7FCD= SSM4 (Sydney Site Monitoring) located at Razorback.

      As far as I'm aware they're test transmissions from ground stations which transmit 24/7 for monitoring the performance of radar, M-LAT and ADS-B signals, but certainly not ground vehicles.

      I tried to obtain the ground vehicle identities for Sydney Airport from Air Services Australia for the database but was unsuccessful and advised that they are frequently rotated from vehicle to vehicle in any case. I tried listening to SYD on LiveATC and working them out from the map but ended in utter confusion as the vehicles aren't always picked up on the map in their exact locations (sometimes moving all over the place due to buildings etc blocking the signal), and there is a slight delay in the LiveATC transmission.

      The following list I obtained from another site;

      7CF43D - Car 2? (my observation)
      7CF452 - Car 4
      7CF44E - Car 5
      7CF441 - Car 9
      7CF447 - Car 11
      7CF449 - Car 66
      7CF45C - Truck 39
      7CF45A - Tractor-1 (slasher)
      7CF459 - Tractor-2 (slasher)
      7CF47E - Mower 4 (ride-on)

      As you can see from my observation I wasn't at all sure and I certainly wouldn't bank on it. Neither was I able to confirm the others.

      Regards,
      Gregg

        Thanks Gregg.

        SSM3 is popping its head up here every now and then today; my view south to SSM4 (Razorback) isn't real flash so I'll doubt I'll ever see it.

        SSM1 0 yesterday with strange ICAO and sqwuaks has me intrigued.

        side note: really happy with how the A3 is going.

        Cheers,

        Andrew

            That's the New South Wales Police Polair4 'VH-PHM' a Eurocopter EC135 P2+;

            In the following vid they are training on the Hawkesbury River with the guys from Hawkesbury SES. They frequently use that callsign to confuse us. On ATC you'll hear them using 'Polair4' callsign. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC6xyXGiypA

            They also use this chopper (Polair5 VH-PHZ);

            Polair5 is ADS-B equipped (VH-PHZ a Bell 412EP) and can often be observed on the map around SYD.

            P.S. you can look up the hex codes on Airframes or Gatwick (I'll get the links shortly) and then look up the current CASA register (http://casa-query.funnelback.com/sea...craft_register) for quick look-up or (http://www.casa.gov.au/scripts/nc.dl...A::pc=PC_90129) and grab the data file for the type/owner etc.
