  • Flight path offset for certain airlines

Sorry if this has been covered. What is the explanation for what appears to be random instances of flight paths being offset a little to the N, E, S or W?

Titan Airways is one particular airline where the flight tracks are always offset (in a seemingly random direction). Take a look at the flight history for their fleet: http://www.flightradar24.com/data/ai...n-airways-awc/ (Boeings only)

It's usually caused by INS-based navigation systems in older aircraft (eg 737s classics, 757s, 767s) which are subject to drift over the course of the flight, hence you usually see the offsets in arrivals. But occasionally you get the odd take-off in the wrong place as well, which implies either an error in what's being outputted or that the crew didn't reset the INS? Maybe someone else can explain those ones!
