Those islands are ARMM territory with a lot of drama there and only receive a few flights from Zamboanga. Cebu Pacific flies a A319 and PAL Express a turbo-prop. Not many of the international carriers use the Sabah-Zamboanga vector although Silk and Malaysian do fly over that area several times a week. Zamboangaradar extends west to the Jolo vicinity. I can't recall seeing a Sabah station picking up the tracking west from Jolo or Tawi-Tawi. I don't think the Ipil station is fully up yet to see what their range is west.

If you do have some friends in secure locations along the north coast of either island it would be worth a shot for them to ask for a receiver.

Recently read about a guy and his family being ambushed by the NPA and their house was burgularized looking for guns. Putting a mast up in a contested area could invite trouble.

If your range reduces it means that there is something wrong. I think you Can ask FR24 For replacement parts.

            When did what happened, happen?

Earlier in the day I did see a few planes attributed to you even though briefly. It was tracking planes then.

            Did lightning strike nearby?

If there was a glitch in electricity to the receiver, it may need to be turned off by removing power to the receiver and then restoring. The receiver will start in the reboot mode.

View your receiver status page and post a screenshot here.

The antenna is a trouble free design but must have the N-Connector on the coax firmly seated and the S-Connector firmly seated at the receiver. If the connections are not tightly connected any movement of either the antenna or the receiver can break the connection.

                          John,

I think problem is with the cable. I actually also have Flightaware's Feeder. Briefly exchange the two cables and that's when I lost the signal, so I reverted to the original and was tracking planes again. Investigating on the faulty cable.

Note: I find the Flightaware ABS-B antenna more sensitive compared to FR24's.

Findings based on the following test done.

                          - Same Height
                          - Same Cable

                          For further testing.

I've three receivers here. Help for configuring your browser is here.

One thing to note with the FlightAware setup is the addition of a lightning arrester and the short coax from the arrester to the receiver. The assembled coax is longer than 10 mtrs. The FR24 setup has nothing between the antenna and receiver except the coax.

If you climb the mast to disconnect and reconnect the N-Connectors let one dangle and slap it against the palm of your hand and look for water droplets. If you see any that means the taping failed and let water in. Redo it, tightening tight, then the up-down-up layering the rubber tape stretched tightly. Retest.

Remember "FREE STUFF" still requires up to P5,000 for out of pocket incidentals to add anyone's receiver. My setups have withstood 2 typhoons without any water or wind damage. Don't take shortcuts. My days of climbing towers and masts is over.

I just used the small coax cable, didn't bother using the lightning arrester and LMR400 Cable. Thanks for the heads up.
