    CLARIFICATION

The right screenshot is a PlaneFinder aka Pinkfroot. Its coverage is very similar to the early model FR24 receiver I have although as you can compare that the combination of the Beaglebone Black and the puck does just slightly more filing in the spikes due to terrain impairments. The antennas on the horizontal plane are separated by 2 ft.

On the FlightAware setup, lessons learned from dongle decoders, first signals are not the best signals to decode. An example is the extraneous track to 300 nm....that was obviously an error that neither FR24 nor PlaneFinder equipment would validate before determining to plot.

Since Gunter in collaboration with FR24 designed and coded the decoders in the Beast and Beaglebone it is clear these have the most reliable decoders and hardware. The world depends on our data...correct data.

    • davaospotter check your FR24 receiver status page to see if the GPS has set your location. The EZD523 has an erratic flight path on the FR24 map.

The GPS has to be connected and working to set your location.

          • Tropical Storm Seniang Crossing the Visayas-Feeder Alert

Tropical Storm Seniang is making landfall and feeders along the line from Surigao west to Negros Oriental should be aware of heavy rain and destructive winds for the next couple of days.

We are already feeling the winds here in Dumaguete which spared us in the recent typhoon. We are checking our guying and removing all canopies. Feeders RPVM, RPVO, RPVT, RPVD, RPVB, RPWD1, RPWD2, RPMV, RPML and RPVI should check their masting to make sure it will withstand the anticipated high winds and torrential rains.

I lost a canopy over my garage in Sendong one of the recent typhoons which flew against a 40 ft mast taking it down so the force of the straight winds is not to be taken lightly. If it looks like the storm is bearing down on you, prepare for perhaps several days without power and internet. Stock up on ready to eat food, water and batteries, standard procedures for those among us used to hunkering down and riding out the storm.

Noel, the range plots of my three receivers can be seen here on my server. Click the menu item on the map to configure your browser. The directions are here to set up your browser.

Kailrusha imagine what RPLP1 goes through regularly in the Bichol region. He is right in the path of most of the powerful typhoons and he keeps his roof and puts his station right back online when power returns.

Generally here in Negros we just get the rain and not so much wind being South of the typhoon belt.

Where are you located on the west coast of Leyte? You must be protected by the mountain range east of you. Isn't South Leyte notorious for nasty mudslides?

Yes. The East side of my Town has Mountain Ranges. Southern Leyte is Notorious for Land or Mudslides. Hill and Mountains here are not all Granite like rocks most are Soft Sand Stone and Mud.
Right know we experience Heavy Rain. All Passenger Vessel here now are suspended in Leyte.

Just wondering has your friend at Palawan applied to host a FR24 kit? Just curious. Thanks.

Unlikely. The frequency aren't that close. GSM is, so that can cause a problem if both the GSM and ADS-B antennas are closely positioned.

Similarly if you listen to air band VHF 108-137mhz, radio stations frequencies which are close to air band frequencies could interfere, as well as intermods. Wifi also can cause some interference. I am no ham radio person though...

Noel, ADS-B and other receiving antennas can coexist on the same mast provided the ADS-B antenna either stands off from the mast or is placed at the very top with the tv antenna mounted below. TV signals are horizontally polarized where as ADS-B signals are vertically polarized.

The reason cell phones interfere with audio equipment is the transmit as well as receive function of the device/antenna. When a cell phone periodically "calls home" to find its location among cell towers, it is this transmit function that causes the interference.

If you mount an omni-directional antenna like an ADS-B on a vertical mast or tower leg the stand off spacing is somewhat critical. If the stand off spacing is too close, the vertical mast or vertical tower leg will reflect back or shield the line of sight ADS-B transponder signals from being received in that direction.

In the case of multiple ADS-B antennas on the same horizontal plane I use a tee with a 12" nipple on either side to stand off from the top of the mast terminating into another tee with each having a 12" nipple, elbow and a capped 12" vertical nipple to attach the antenna. This type of arrangement will accommodate 4 or more antennas, spaced two foot apart, that will peacefully co-exist with no interference in line of sight.

I had sent emails to several High-Rise Hotels near the airport in Puerto Princesa - tipping them off about www.flightradar24.com and asking if they are will to host a FR24 receiver - but received no reply at all.

Glad to learn your friend is willing to host the receiver.
