  • Masking of BizJets

Please forgive me if this has already been discussed (did a pretty thorough search beforehand though) - I notice a lot of BizJets have had their IDs masked (Mode-S and Reg) with their callsign just showing as their type, CL60, GLEX, GLF4 etc.

Just wondering why this is? I can understand individuals requesting omission or removal from the DB, but whole types?

Just curious about this, as I live in Melbourne, and often see BizJets flying out of Essendon Field from my work, would just be nice to be able to see which ones are regular visitors.

As I understand it it's so not to antagonize powerful people or countries where they don't want their movements followed. However if they have full ADSB (not tracked by radarcode T-MLATxx) you could install your own receiver and see what they really are.

That makes sense, figured it was worth asking the question anyway.

if I didn't live in an inner city apartment with no roof access, I'd set up my own reciever in a jiffy.

      Thanks for the reply, Peter!

Many of the receivers in places like Hong Kong have a 180 degree view due to being in an apartment. Mind you if you can see a plane from your apatment - then you have line of sight to it and could receive the ADSM info it transmits..
