  • Flight Numbers

    Hi All,

This weekend I flew again from BSL to AMS.
I pre-entered the flights info on Flightdiary using the flight number shown on my ticket : EZS1041 and EZS1046

The link was not posted on FB becaue EZS1041 does not appear on FR24. I tracked down the flight number to be actually U21046 on FR24. I changed the return flight number to U21046 and this time the link got posted to Facebook once we were airborne.

My question is : are there several kinds of flight numbers ? The ones printed on tickets (also used throughout arrival/departures boards) and the one fed to fr24.con through the live system ?

    Thanks

Update : EZS is the ICAO code for easyjet switzerland and DS is the IATA code .... Still can't find something about "U2"

'U2' is the IATA for easyJet GB (EZY), the reason 'DS' is not used is more than likely the same reason Flightstats don't use it and i have no idea what that is.

Flightstats format for easyJet GB/CH (U2) is the same, so its difficult to differentiate them.
Track real-time flight status, departures and arrivals, airport delays, and airport information using FlightStats Global Flight Tracker.

    Flightmapper also use 'U2' : http://info.flightmapper.net/flight/easyJet_U2_1041

Flightaware appear to use 'AG' (Which belongs to Air Contractors.) as the IATA code to complicate things even more.

      This is getting complex !
But at least there is some sort of connection between all those codes.

I found this link which explains some stuff : http://www.pprune.org/archive/index.php/t-200362.html

Thanks for that Ratty, it sounds like the whole Flight Number / Callsign and Ticket Code system needs updating.

FR24 is using IATA codes for flight numbers if available, so Easyjet is U2. Some arrival boards show EZY, some EZS and other U2. We can't really know what they decide to use and why so we use U2 just as most other airlines use their IATA code.

I can see why the mapping is made

EasyJet Airline Company Limited (UK Based) - (IATA code : U2 ; ICAO code EZY ; Callsign : Easy )
EasyJet Switzerland SA ( IATA code : DS ; ICAO code : EZS ; Callsign : TOPSWISS )
They seem to be run almost as two separate airlines with the same name.

            but:

Thomsonfly (IATA: by ; ICAO : TOM ; CALLSIGN TOMSON ) are doing flights for
TUIFLYNordic (IATA : 6B, ICAO : BLX ; Callsign : BLUESCAN) as TOM

There do seem to be inconsistences here

Allright, this is something to be aware of when entering flight number into flight diary thus making sure the link gets posted on Facebook.
Maybe improving Flightdiary by proposing to select the company name/code from a list would help.

              Thank you for the info.

I am still a little bit lost...
I flew EasyJet switzerland where flight number should have been DSxxxx on FR24 whereas it was U2xxxx, at least according to the FlightDiary Screenshot I just made....

As I wrote, there is a big mess how Easyjet use their codes.
So we use U2 for all Easyjet flights, so please use U2 for all Easyjet flights.
