Another Boeing 787 Dreamliner has run into issues. This time Poland's LOT LOT.UL airline had to make an emergency landing in Iceland on Sunday as the plane's identification system wasn't working.
According to Reuters, the plane was flying from Toronto to Warsaw but it never made it as it have to land at Keflavik airport in Reykjavik, Iceland.
"The aircraft had to land due to an air identification system fault. The Norwegian authorities have refused permission to fly over its territory, even though other countries gave permission to fly over theirs," Barbara Pijanowska-Kuras told Reuters

It has redundant systems .... so did both fail at the same time?

ADS-B was working. Both ModeC transponders failed.

BTW, I have recently seen Ethiopian Dreamliner with ADS-B off, only visible through MLAT. Makes me wonder if they turned MLAT off intentionally or if it was a transponder issue.

Mike, have seen the same thing. The inbound flight of Ethiopian to Jo'burg has ADSB on. But then the outbound flight 2 hours later has no ADSB. Never been able to figure out why if it's accidental or intentional.

I’m taking a wild guess here but Ethiopia and its hostile neighbour Somalia are a soup full of little terrorist groups, all of which would love more then anything to bring down a Jet.

We all love ADS-B, but think about the implications of flying over a hostile land, and broadcasting your ID and tracking location, and all other flight parameters to every terrorist down on the ground.

So it sounds to me like they are intentionally turning off ADS-B once out of South African airspace.

It's possible that one of the transponders is faulty and the good one is shielded by the aircraft body when flying north?

This aircraft (LOT) had problems from the outset. It was 2 hours late departing, allegedly filed a flight plan for 27,000' and never made it above that altitude.

I would be guessing at the moment that Qantas /Jetstar are feeling as little nervous about their delivery of the first 787 this month;

(Some of this detail appears to be covered in the previous posts- including another picture of the wrong aircraft- apologies but I cant be held responsible for that one). Apologies for any duplication but it's very late here in oz.

Glitches are keeping Boeing's Dreamliners in the headlines, including two new problems that came to light during the weekend. The issues have been considered to be minor, but their frequency is creating operational frustrations among Boeing's 787 customers.

Reuters reports a Dreamliner for Polish airline LOT had to divert to Iceland on Sunday because of a glitch in the the aircraft's identification system, according to an airline spokeswoman.

The flight was en route to Warsaw from Toronto when it made the unscheduled stop at the Iceland's Keflavik airport near Reykjavik.

I'd reckon Boeing may need to be warming up their cheque books for their existing 787 customers about now.
