I'm toying with uploading as NZCH1 tonight

Sadly rather patchy. All the flights have been landing from the south, where I have very patchy cover compared to the north and upward of 38,000ft 20-30nm hits I've been getting during the akl-dun flights flying overhead.

Hopefully this should change by the weekend

Roger Oblivian,.Please do it as so as Possible and agree with Brent.

Something,is better than nothing,. maybe a 1090 antenna with low loss cable would
makes a world of differents,so watch out you dont fall off your chair if you decide
        to get one.

And I hope you have the text from Mike(FR24) to enable you to upload to us.

        Best of Luck David

Already uploading to FR as of this morning Delcomp They sent me the app late last night when I was still up.

But patchy isn't the word when they are using the southern approach.. it's downright terrible.
But expected - with the tiny magmount antenna on the guttering with a roof and some buildings in the way of my 25km line of sight view They look like they are making some pretty serious turns at times

I'm starting out cheap and constructing a homebrew at present. But testing has shown guys getting around 130-200nm with it. So heres hoping!

I just have to find a suitable pole to put up near my existing UHF antenna

          Craig.

Roger Craig, Welcome on board mate (NZCH1).

I was able to see the 257 taking off for AKL,. and before that
the DUD - CHC landing.. Nice,.the South Island isnt so dead,as
it was before. At least youve made a start." Good on you"

I mention the JST257,. as that was the first Kiwi route entry I
made in our database.,.When NZCH first started up,... just by the way.

So thats a start,.I sure when you get your antenna higher, that youll be
seeing a lot more and farther,. I have the SSE1090 and as i said before
the Lowloss cable makes a big differents,. Then you can start thinking
about USB repeater cables. If your not already into it

If you use the English Chat,.(Im also in there) pretty sure Karl could give
you some usefull tips. as he is a Gen-man on that side.

Well done Craig,.and the very Best, David

              Cheers

I have the antenna out the window on the roof gutter. USB dongle sitting just inside window. 5m USB repeater cable to PC.

Unit will be down tomorrow (acars should still update) as I am taking the kit into work to test some different antenna configurations (happen to be working within the airport campus which is handy) Sadly no internet connection to keep uploads going for the day.

I'm pleasently surprised! My DIY high gain works wonders!

I capture A/C 20-30nm after NZPM loses them, above Lake Rotoiti at the top of the South Island. Trans Tasman are captured as they are nearing land on the west Coast waypoints. High altitude movements have been up to 110nm either direction (Plotting with SBSPlotter)

I still have some holes at lower altitudes on approach, but A hole in the SI has been filled again

                  Hi Craig,

You have done well. Great to see Christchurch back on the system. Your existing arrangement will complement NZCH very well when it comes back on line. That is only six or so weeks away now. At least while NZCH is down it allows you the opportunity to see where your coverage is and isn't. Off to the airport soon to get the good lady of Jetstar JQ166 which is delayed 3 hours today. Airlines????
                  Cheers,

                  Brent

I hope so Have some pretty bad low alt coverage around the airport at least you will be able to fill.

May well be offline myself for 2 weeks late August/early Sept. Off to the land of kangaroos myself for another quake-break. But if I can find a suitable donor I will re-locate the kit there during the time.

This morning when I switched on,. I was completely thrilled to see
that all the Kiwis where on line.

NZAA, NZAA1, NZPM and NZCH1. Great stuff guys, keep it up

                      David

If anyone else is wanting to try a DIY an antenna that apparently.. works.

I used the design here http://www.kineticavionics.co.uk/for...88df0&start=24

And made the groundplane forks 1/4wave instead of 3/4 (65mm or so each) on recommendation from another user. Went from averaging a little under 25nm to 90nm

A weatherproof housing and more permanent fixture is planned when I have a free weekend as nights are too dark and cold early at present. It is currently in a flagpole mount and 2x 2.5m sections on the ground

Passengers were cleared from an Air New Zealand flight in Christchurch on Monday afternoon after a woman died after suffering a suspected heart attack.
