What do the dots in an aircraft's trail represent or mean?

Wait. Are you explaining properly? Do you mean the NON coloured ones when you zoom in on a track so far it wont go any further on a pc, or the gapped trails.

When I click on an aircraft, a line (trail?) is displayed behind same aircraft and it contains dots.
They seem to be at regular intervals.
Was wondering what they represent.Comment
