  • Help to setup SDR-RTL Dongle feed

    Hi,

    I'd like to start feeding to FR24. I have a SDR-RTL USB Dongle connected to my computer and using RTL1090 I see that I receive ADS-B messages.

    I've downloaded the Windows feeder software but only get Connection terminated messages as shown in this picture:

    FR24.png

    As far as I can see there are two options:

    I can use the FR24 software directly or I can go via RTL1090. Is this correct?

    What settings should I use in either case?

    Trying without the RTL1090 I enter:
    - My email address
    - Sharing key
    - DVBT Stick
    - Step 4.3 - Enter your additional dump1090 arguments or leave empty - I have no idea so I leave empty
    - Step 5.1 - Would you like to enable RAW data feed on port 30002 (yes/no)$: - I have no idea; so yes
    - Step 5.2 - Would you like to enable Basestation data feed on port 30003 (yes/no) - I have no idea so no (since I do not have Basestation as far as I know)
    - Step 6A - Please select desired logfile mode: Again no idea so I choose disabled

    What am I doing wrong here?

    Thank you.

    You choose yes to things when not sure, those should be no.

    And any reason you need rtl1090? It has the same (if not less) functions than dump1090 and it's not filtered

    Feel free to post/discuss suggestions here http://forum.flightradar24.com/threa...4840#post74840 (http://forum.flightradar24.com/threads/9875-Info-Updates-Ammendments-Placeholder?p=74840#post74840) This guide is not to be taken as officially sourced support information. It is contributor-made Information has been repeated many

      The manual does not say anything about it, so what I did was finding a Norwegian krone coin, toss it in the air and when it was showing the face of King Harald I went for yes. But rest assure I have also tried No - it makes no difference at all.

      With another USB Dongle I feed AIS data to Marinetraffic. I understand there might be some conflict in this setup (having two dongles connected to the computer), so how can I work around this if this is the case?

      I've never stated I need RTL1090. If you read what I write you'll see that I have tested with RTL1090, and it works (in contrast to the FR24 feed software). When running both RTL1090 and the software feeding AIS data to Marinetraffic I see both ship and aircraft data. In the first post I just ask if it is true that I can also try using RTL1090 since the optimal way of feeding do not work. I also ask for assistance in trying this method if I am unable to get the preferred method using dump1090 to work.

      But if you are able to help me set up the feed the preferred way, I’ll appreciate the assistance and uninstall RTL1090.

        That information would have been kinda handy clarified in the first post so we weren't lead to such assumptions of a normal setup...

        The link I provided shows how to Connect it to rtl1090. The default uploader is not multi device aware or configurable to one device on its own as it does an auto detect on start. That is Unless dump1090 is run standalone and configured as avr-tcp device such. Also should find hints about this in my guide.

          There may also be a way to define a particular USB device using the additional parameters command, passing it to dump1090. But I'm not familiar with the exact ones need nor tested if it will work

            It was not something I was thinking of since I did receive ADS-B data via RTL1090 - hence to me the setup worked.

            This is the information RTL1090 is displaying:

            RTL1090.png

            I tried your settings in fr24feed.exe and this is the fr24feed.ini file created:

            receiver="avr-tcp"
            fr24key="******"
            host="localhost:31001"
            bs="no"
            raw="no"
            logmode="0"
            mlat="no"
            mlat-without-gps="no"

            Starting fr24feed.exe again this is what is beeing displayed

              That's signs of lack of readable data. You'll need to verify in RTL if it is set for raw out, and usb not the 2nd device which is from memory default of instead 31010

                Actually screen shot says 31001 is correct. So either no contacts, too filtered (not enough stable data over 3sec period) or output wrong format

                  Ok... I'm having various difficulties getting this to work right now.

                  First problem seems to be that the two dongles will no longer run at the same time. They did so yesterday, now they won't. When starting AISRec first, RTL1090 won't receive anything. When starting RTL1090 first, AISRec won't start.

                  Another problem is that when I start RTL1090 first, and see lots of ADS-B messages in the list, I get the ping 1, 2, 3 etc. messages in FR24Feed.exe as above.

                  Originally posted by Oblivian View Post

                  How do I verify that RTL1090 is set for raw? I do not understand the rest... What do you mean?

                  The Marinetraffic feed has priority over FR24, so as of now there will not be any feed to FR24 until I can get this solved.

                  So I'm back to square one asking the following question:

                  I currently feed AIS data to Marinetraffic using USB Dongle. I have a couple of extra USB Dongles and would like to feed ADS-B data to FR24 as well. What steps must I take to accomplish this?

                    Ok, so I found another laptop that I'm not using. After starting the FR24 feed software (on this computer I'm only running FR24 feed software - no other dongles connected) I get this. Why is the connection terminated?

                        I stopped using the RTL1090 and just used the FR24 feeder software works pretty good for me except my computer want's to drop the NooElec USB periodically saying that the device malfunctioned.
