Mac OS X and FR24Feed post 1

Hi All,

I have purchased a NooElec NESDR Mini 2 USB RTL-SDR & ADS-B Receiver Set, RTL2832U & R820T2 Tuner which (according to the reviews) have been used with FR24.

I would paste logs etc but just lost my initial post due to over zealous "you can't post links" and lost the lot.

If you have a question please ask and I'll attempt to answer without triggering the above, sorry its short on info but it won't let me post anything useful!

Tried this on alternate Mac with the same result. The dongle works as I installed CubicSDR on the other Mac and happily listened to a local FM radio station.

Update: Having installed HomeBrew...then brew install rtl_sdr...then rtf_tcp -f 1090000000 Hz then....start Cocoa1090 and {pause for dramatic effect}....

We have lift off! I get a map with aircraft. Only 100 nautical miles but none the less aircraft.

So I stop Cocoa1090 and fire up FR24FeedOSX, set it all to AVR (TCP), remove /.Dump1090 (and added to if it made any difference) and point it at 127.0.0.1:1234 and it connects, YAY!

BUT

Tracks nothing, uploads nothing! BOO!

Any ideas? I know the hardware works so I'm doing something wrong in FR24FeedOSX and Dump1090 etc?

So...an update.

I ran up a Windows 7 VM, installed libusb and FR24Feed and it all burst in to life and triggered my Premier account etc. Went back to the Mac side and nothing. It's almost like the Mac "drivers" (for the want of a better description) aren't installed but they must be as using rtl-sdr, Cocoa1090 and CubicSDR work perfectly.

Might it be to do with the FR24FeedOSX_1.0.18-5.zip as per this thread - http://forum.flightradar24.com/threa...ac-not-working ?

I've not dealt with a mac to know. But does it require a path to be added for the device in the config unlike others?

Hi - I am also just getting started on OSX yesterday. I found that the default build of dump1090 which comes with the fr24feed app package doesn't work -- fr24feed was trying to re-connect to dump1090 periodically but failing. The reason in my case was that fr24feed's dump1090 seems to have been built with the assumption that the underlying libusb*.dylib (low-level RTL-SDR driver) was installed in the OSX system path (/usr/lib etc.) A quick hack would be to copy the lib manually into the system path, which I generally avoid.

Instead I built my own RTL-SDR (I used macports but homebrew should be just fine) as well as dump1090 (with source code downloaded from Github), which would use the RTL-SDR library that was just built. Finally, configure fr24feed via Web Status / Settings to use the newly built dump1090.

I can send you the high level steps if you are comfortable with command line and build tools...

Strangely enough I have had a go with essentially the same routine myself a couple of weekends ago (been away so have only just got back to this yesterday) and I am now happily sharing data too.

I used the Homebrew route and it all burst into life. Next project is to build my open J antenna and see if I can improve my range ;-)

I have the same issue with my Mac, it's so frustrating that the version published doesn't work correctly and has been the same on since March 2016. I was hoping to use my Mac to feed as it is on all the time. What is the form with the frequency of updating the software ?

I see this thread has been dormant for a while - apologies if updated elsewhere - I haven't found it the info I need.

I initially tried to install FR24 feed on a purpose-built Pi4 (NOT via the .img route).

Several failures to get feeds going, so reverted to my Mac.

CubicSDR v 0.2.5 happily running (Pi not even close).

I'd be very grateful for cktse's high-level steps!
