Archived - Beta test MLAT software for Raspberry Pi

    The script broke permanently with error 403.
    The manual install worked however.

    After a broken script attempt, you can proceed with the manual method at:
    $ sudo apt-get update
    $ sudo apt-get install fr24feed
    $ fr24feed --signup...

    The repositories are already updated.

      zero config mlat using ads-b positions to infer the home location?

      hello,

      just had this idea, most of us typically won't have a GPS device to pinpoint the home location or make errors determining it manually. However lot's of aircraft send their accurate position via ADS-B (the ones for which we do not need MLAT). If we were to MLAT those as well and doing some goniometry juggle it should be possible to infer the receiver location from those measurements, could this be used to create a zero-config type of MLAT for the mode-s transponders?

        The coordinates are in the URL. It's just as simple as that.

          The idea of localizing a receiver by triangulating coordinates and distances is a good idea. It eliminates relying on manual input of coordinates by the feeder who doesn't have a gps. Future project for the FR24 programmers maybe some day .

          Edit: AFAIK there is no way to use a GPS or any other automated way to update a receivers coordinates to FR24 yet. That is just an idea so far.

            Latest released Rpi fr24feed version is working for me.
            Lost connection with fr24 for awhile and not sure why but manually updated the pi with "sudo apt-get update" and after a restart it works fine .

            Edit: Is it true that feeders who have the latest Rpi updates are prevented from cross feeding MLAT data? If that is true, is there a way to push the updates to those offending feeders? In my area, it's T-KSJC12, T-KSJC18 and (a few others) are the worst MLAT leaks in SFO area in that order. Right now T-KSJC12 is the worst MLAT leak and the source of all the phantom planes chasing T-KSJC18's mlat leaks.

              Please update your clients to the latest version from the repository, and MLAT is finally back from Volunteer feeds.
              We do however require at least one GPS equipped FR24 receiver in the group to trust the calculations.

              Another important fact: If we have enough FR24 receivers (4+) for an aircraft, we use that data first and foremost. You might see mlat stats "0/0" in some areas because of that.

              Look forward to see more and more volunteer generated MLAT positions in the next few weeks!

                  Two questions:
                  You are no longer using MLAT6 and MLAT7 to describe RPi involvement?
                  Windows-base feeder can attribute to MLAT as well?

                    Is a radarcape considered to be a GPS equipped FR24 receiver or does it have to be a receiver issued by FR24?

                        So, my question is: can FR24 utilize a gps enabled pi and use that as a trusted MLAT source?
                        They do have them here at low cost for those with a little hardware talent:

                          Using the latest software 1.0.18-5 with RPI it is working ok with rtl-sdr as receiver. But using SBS-1 or SBS-3 via network connection does not decodes any aircrafts. Previous versions were working ok.
                          Anybody else with SBS receivers and raspberry pi working the last version?

                            Why would you want to put effort and money in a GPS device, if your Pi-receiver is stationary at home anyway?
                            Google Maps give you 7 decimal accuracy, FR24 truncates that to 4 anyhow.

                                So, I am looking at my radar which is showing MLAT positions for planes (derived from FA's MLAT), and I am watching my logs which are saying 0/0 ... I know there are a number of F-feeders around YBBN but I am not seeing these low altitude planes on FR24... Is Pi MLAT working for FR24 or not? *confused*
