Is there a way to display (via http://XX.X.X.XX/dump1090/gmap.html or similar) a visual depiction of what traffic has been received by the receiver on the map? I'm thinking some sort of heat/scatter map? I seem to recall seeing this somewhere before but I'm having a rather senior moment in locating this! Can anyone help?

This is more likely what he's looking for.
But it's a bit of work to get it working: https://github.com/caiusseverus/adsbcompare

I think i am going to give https://github.com/caiusseverus/adsbcompare a go. I have installed graphs1090 (thanks wiedehopf ) and am downloading gnuplot now. Will have a look around the forums for any threads for advice as it seems like a little bit of work and good knowledge may be required as was said. Thanks.

I had a look at https://github.com/caiusseverus/adsbcompare and didn't even know where to start, so i think that's out..lol. I couldn't even find any pages on here about it si i think it's a no go.
I like the idea of https://github.com/tedsluis/dump1090.socket30003 but from what i've read you have to use his modified dump1090 which i'm not that keen on doing as i'm currently using dump1090-fa.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has successfully installed tedsluis's data?
