  • Dead Dongle? Windows 10 / RPi

    Hey,

I'm trying to set up FR on my windows 10 machine and the errors I'm getting seem to point towards a dead dongle.

First of all I'm using this dongle: ADS-B USB Dongle (R820T2) from JetVision, plugged into USB 2 on my motherboard, also had the same issues when plugged into a powered USB 3 hub and directly into a Rasberry Pi.

    These are the errors/issues:

    Zadig

    Dongle shows up as
    Code:
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)
instead of the expected Bulk Device and driver installation fails.

    fr24feed

Loads the software okay but then repeats this error message:

    Code:
    [reader][i]Connecting to DVBT receiver via (exe://mr-dump1090.exe --net-http-port 8080 --raw)
    [reader][i]Connected to the receiver, configuring
    [reader][i]Configured, processing messages
    [reader][i]Connection terminated
The web page setup doesn't seem to show any errors:

I have also tried using the dongle on a Raspberry Pi 3b+ with both the pi24 image and Rasbian Stretch Lite following steps on the forum but cannot get any results there either.

Do these signs point towards a dead dongle or am I missing something in my set up.

I have search the forums and generally on the internet but couldn't find anything that fixed these issues.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm also having a myraid of problems trying to get this to work on my Pi, using pi24 and rasbian and manual install.

Seems to be either a problem with dump1090 or the dongle itself again.

      In the folder on windows.

      Run nothing but mr-dump1090.exe

It will show you the errors/what's happening

          Well there ya go

          No supported RTLSDR devices found.

If doing the same on a pi it could well be toast.

You should at least see it in the device manager change on insert

You can check out this thread:
How To Test If Your DVB-T RTL SDR Dongle Is Healthy Following two options are described below: OPTION-1: Dongle plugged into Raspberry Pi. OPTION-2: Dongle plugged into Windows Computer. . OPTION-1: Dongle plugged into Raspberry Pi. STEP-1: Install the test tools package rtl-sdr sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install

            But this line
            No supported RTLSDR devices found.
means the dongle is probably dead.

              That's what I thought,

I can't even install the drivers via zadig on Windows, but I can try on my Pi.

                Same error on the Pi.

I'll get in contact with Sky Vision.

Are there any reputable dongle on Amazon UK?

Same goes. Without running/stopping fr24feed first you can launch sudo dump1090-mutability

                  And see similar output

The store at AirNav radarbox seems to have dongles on sale right now, quite a good price (as filtering and amplification is builtin, the green one)

Be aware it seems to have a SMA connector though if you are setup for MCX right now.

Actually if another program is running the rtl_test will have a USB claim interface error -6 or something like that.

It shows as 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)' in Windows Device manager and Zadig.
