But I can access Variflight outside of China, its exactly the same set-up of "monitoring radio waves" by us foreigners that they are so concerned about!
Mike you might want to tell them the above

Now it is “National security”
I shutdown all service for my own safety before they came to me .Originally posted by rik130 View PostPlease keep your Shanghai service running as it is very useful! I am sure the Chinese authorities are just scare-mongering.
Friends of mine have been visited and have received the same notice.
Reports on Weibo of boxes being confiscated too. I wonder if its just FR24 or if they are doing the same with Variflight users?

If this prohibition is applied, other countries will take the example, as is the case of Venezuela, even though our airspace is almost extinct like the North Koreans :V, there have been people detained for only publishing on social networks screen captures corresponding to flights of governors of my country..... after the news I think some feeders have decided to turn off their units.Last edited by Vetu; 2018-11-21, 16:12.

We are aware that more receivers than usual are offline in China. We are looking into the situation and are communicating with relevant Chinese authorities.

Article 55 in the new law says "Any unit or individual shall not provide information within the radio parameters relating to national security to foreign organizations or individuals."
We have been talking to radio amateur organizations and other specialist in China to analyze the law and the conclusion is that broadcasted ADS-B data can not be interpreted as something that is related to or affecting national security.

You know China is a special country and always says no to unclear things.
The case is Chinese government issued new "RADIO REGULATIONS OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA" with the prohibition on providing radio data(parameters) to overseas organization and it has already been effective on December 1st(Beijing Time). I think the Flightradar24 Box may be recognized as a device risking national security by the government. However, these kind of regulations and laws are still indistinct, which means the use of 1090MHZ is still in a Grey Area.
Volunteers in China are afraid about that (maybe some day police comes......) and some of them suspended their device to prevent from the possibility of breaking laws or regulations. They will not resume the device until it's clear.
Have you ever talked to CAAC(Civil Aviation Administration of China) or other related ministry of China in order to make sure if it is not illegal to do that?Tags: None
