Passengers at the Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf airports on Thursday faced long waits and cancelled flights, after security personnel went on strike as part of an ongoing labour dispute.
Long lines formed in both terminals as security checkpoints were essentially shut down, following the decision by the airport workers to walk off the job.
A similar one-day strike last week caused chaos in Hamburg. The trade union Verdi hopes targeting the airports in North Rhine-Westphalia will increase pressure on employers.
Union representatives want to push through their demand for a €14.50 hourly wage for security personnel, who currently earn €11.80 per hour.
Passengers should plan more time to get through security, and contact their airline to determine if their flight has been cancelled
