Delta Air Lines Inc. officials say rats are not a problem on the company’s jets, and that a rat situation making big headlines this week is an isolated problem, reports Atlanta Business Chronicle broadcast partner WXIA-TV.

Rats ground Qantas jet

Qantas has been forced to ground one of its passenger jets after rats were found on board.
Flight attendants found five rats in the cabin of a Boeing 767 aircraft due to leave Sydney on Tuesday afternoon while making a routine safety and security inspection.
The rodents were discovered in emergency medical equipment carried on the aircraft, 10 minutes before passengers were due to board. Qantas was unsure last night how the rats got there.

A Qantas Boeing 767 was grounded in Sydney after five baby rats were found in an onboard medical cupboard.
Passengers were 15 minutes from boarding the Tuesday afternoon Sydney-to-Brisbane flight when the crew began their routine inspection.

Bat causes plane to turn around

MADISON, Wis., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- An Atlanta-bound plane returned to a Wisconsin airport when a bat was discovered on the flight moments after takeoff, an airport spokesman said.
Brett McHenry, spokesman for the Madison airport, said the Atlantic Southeast Airlines flight left the airport with 49 passengers at 6:45 a.m. Friday and pilots notified air traffic controllers the plane was returning at 7:08 a.m., the Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, reported Tuesday.

JFK 'Lost Cat' Incident Angers Public

"Jack the Cat is Lost in AA Baggage at JFK," after Pascoe was unable to get any response from the airline for more than 60 hours after the cat got loose. The Facebook group attracted more than 1,000 members within 24 hours and they flooded the American Airlines page with messages about the missing cat. The airline said Monday it has put out food, water and humane traps in an attempt to find Jack.

'When pigs fly' is officially now

FARMINGDALE -- A pig flew -- from Florida to New York on Pet Airways.
A miniature potbellied pig named Bosley arrived Thursday at Republic Airport on Long Island to join his new adoptive family in Sag Harbor, Newsday reported.
The 49-pound porker is the first pig for the Florida-based Pet Airways, which specializes in flying animals.
Airline co-founder Alysa Binder says it's "exciting and so fun" that pigs can fly now.

Eek! Mouse in pantry halts Nepal flight to Bangkok

KATMANDU, Nepal — Airline officials say flight attendants spotted a mouse in the pantry of a Boeing 757, prompting Nepal Airlines to cancel a Bangkok-bound flight, evacuate passengers and tow the jet to a hangar to hunt for the rodent.
Airline spokesman Raju K.C. says the mouse is believed to have boarded the plane at the Katmandu airport Monday through a food catering truck.
He says the animal darted out of the pantry toward the back of the plane, where it remained unnoticed by the few passengers who had boarded. The cabin crew unsuccessfully hunted the mouse and then decided to cancel the flight and perform a more thorough search.
The airline spokesman says the plane will not be used again until the mouse is found.

Mouse in cockpit grounds plane, again (family?)

A Nepal Airlines Boeing 757 was grounded at Hong Kong's airport after a mouse sneaked into the cockpit, the airline said yesterday.
The Kathmandu-bound flight, due to take off Tuesday evening, had to be cancelled after a mouse was reportedly spotted by pilots before departure, holding up the 84 passengers waiting to board the flight.
By Wednesday afternoon, the creature was still on the loose aboard the aircraft.


The incident is the second embarrassment for the Nepali airline this week, after the same plane was reportedly grounded for over 11 hours at Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday -- also due to a mouse.

Aeroflot looses dog

Aeroflot has offered compensation to the owners of a prize winning Chihuahua that was lost from checked-in baggage on a Vladivostok-Moscow flight.

“This is a typical situation, these kinds of events happen at every airline around the world,” RIA Novosti quoted a company press-release as saying on Friday. “While the baggage was being unloaded, the cage fell and because it was fragile broke open, the dog ran away and our personnel could not catch it.”

The press statement said that the owner was not yet emotionally attached to the dog as she had only just acquired it. Press-reports have stated that the dog was a Russian dog-show champion. The airline recommends that passengers take all pet animals under 9kg as carry-on luggage. (ed, remark ?????)

A United Boeing 737-800, registration N37290 performing flight UA-1571 from Fort Lauderdale,FL to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA), was on final approach to O'Hare's runway 27L when the crew reported a flock of ducks was tracking localizer 27L outbound at 1200 feet MSL and added they were doing a dandy job on it too. Tower warned the next arrival about the ducks heading their way. All ducks and aircraft landed safely at their destinations.
