    FAA Drone Registration Rule Shot Down by Appeals Court;

    On Friday, a Washington D.C. court ruled that the FAA’s 2015 small unmanned aircraft (UAS) registration rule violates the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012. Under the rule, owners of drones weighing between .55 and 55 pounds were required to register their aircraft, because, as then-U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in the original statement, “unmanned aircraft enthusiast are aviators, and with that title comes a great deal of responsibility.”

    Separate reviews into GA sector and drones to be released by the end of 2017: Chester

    (Australian) Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester says the outcomes of separate reviews into the general aviation (GA) sector and use of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) are expected to be known before the end of 2018.

    The Minister outlined the timetable for the two reviews at the biennial aviation safety conference Safeskies in Canberra on Wednesday.

    “I expect to release the GA study report before the end of the year,” Chester said in prepared remarks.

    “Also, by the end of this year CASA will have released its review of drone regulations.”

    I'd pose the question in the light of a number of recent incidents near Sydney airport (listening to ATC) that I've witnessed, should 'drones' be fitted with an ADS-B out capability? Drones and green laser pointers seem to be currently running neck and neck on the list of pests here in our region.

    Regards,
    Gregg

      Drone collides with passenger plane above Quebec City airport

      Skyjet plane was struck as it approached Jean Lesage airport Thursday but landed safely.

      Federal Transport Minister Marc Garneau said he's "extremely preoccupied" by an incident that saw a small drone collide with a passenger airplane above Jean Lesage airport in Quebec City on Thursday.

      "This should not have happened. That drone should not have been there," he said,

      Garneau confirmed that the aircraft, a Skyjet plane, only sustained minor damage and said he was relieved that no one was hurt.

      He said that "it could have been much more serious" and that if the drone had collided with the cockpit or the engine, the incident could have been "catastrophic."
