  • PH-EXD KLM E190 - New aircraft, no ADS-B GPS.

    PH-EXD KLM Cityhopper Embraer ERJ-190STD (ERJ-190-100)
The world’s most popular flight tracker. Track planes in real-time on our flight tracker map and get up-to-date flight status & airport information.

So, KLM got this new aircraft. Why doesn't it have a full ADS-B GPS system?

    Jarod,

Glad you've picked up on that as I'd been wondering if Embraer had changed their policy. Unlike Airbus and Boeing, Embraer weren't fitting ADS-B at point of manufacture unless necessary. It seems that is still the case. Perhaps it's a question of cost. I guess it will change as ADS-B becomes mandatory throughout the rest of the world (it is here in Australia from December last year for aircraft flying at or above FL290). The E190's here with Virgin had to be retro-fitted prior to the date it became mandatory, as did many older aircraft (or they got flogged off).

    Regards,
    Gregg

About 40% of E190 comes with ADSB and 60% without, it's up to airline to decide.

      Without
      KLM
      Air France
      Flybe
      Flybe Nordic
      Air Canada
      Ukraine International Airlines
      BA CityFlyer
      JetBlue
      Air Europa

      With
      LOT
      Jetairfly
      Bulgaria Air
      Fly Niki
      Air Dolomiti
      Lufthansa (later deliveries)
      China Southern Airlines

      Recently upgraded
      Alitalia CityLiner
      Virgin Australia

Bombardier aircraft like CRJ-900, CRJ-1000 and Dash-8 are also new aircraft that are delivered without ADS-B

        Air Europa
AEA comes with and without, later E190 deliveries already have ADS-B equipment.

KLM Cityhopper adds E190s to its fleet

          Jarod,
Did some digging and it helps to explain the case with the Embraer 190 mentioned above. They are leased through BOC Aviation to replace the Fokker 70's which adds another dimension to the ADS-B/non ADS-B equation. Leased aircraft may or may not be fitted depending on where they are sourced and/or previously used. If the Virgin aircraft I mentioned above are on sold or leased they would be equipped but whether this would be used is another matter.

Key.Aero brings all the best aviation content in one place – from in-depth articles to video interviews, insightful infographics, fun quizzes and much more. New content landing all the time!

The final Fokker 70 is expected to leave KLM Cityhopper during 2018 (Airliner World March 2014 P7).

          Regards,
          Gregg

Thanks all for the info, all clear now.

And while still in the spotting forum, new photos of the new livery: http://www.planespotters.net/Aviatio...php?tag=PH-EXD
I really like it. The Fokker 70 and Boeing 787 should get the same livery.

I saw 2 E190 for BA CityFlyer leaving Brazil yesterday with ADS-B. We will see if ADS-B will remain on after they have landed in UK.
