Norwegian flight NAX 5596, LN-DYE from Aalborg to Alicante just squawked 7700 and made a sharp U turn about 10 Kms short of Paris CDG.
The aircraft appears to be heading back home.
I thought it was odd that if there was an emergency worthy of a 7700 squawk, the aircraft would land at the nearest airport?
Not only that but there has been no change in altitude, sticking at 37,000.
Aah! As I write, they have started to descend.
At the time of the U turn, there was a Ryanair flight heading to Oslo on an almost identical track and only 1,000 ft above. Perhaps he had to wait for the Ryanair to "get out of the way" before the Norwegian could begin descending.
