  • IL-76 on 18.08.2011 over Luedenscheid, Germany

    hello,

I have a question to a probably IL-76 which I saw first in my life yesterday evening. The time was about 6:30 p.m. (about 18:30 Uhr German time).

This vast plane appeared suddenly in pretty low altitude coming from south-southeast direction and then changed flight course in westerly direction.

First I thought it may be an Antonov plane, but the shape of the high positioned elevatorunit made it clear that it must be a IL-76.

Indeed I saw yesterday one IL-76 on flightradar coming over Germany via Belgium to Great Britain.

Is it possible to review the route of this plane or does anybody know more about this hugh coloss?

    Thank you very much

    regards

    Edgar Schlimm, Germany

          Hello scanhorse,

thank you very much for your reply and information.

Unfortunately my computer has a problem with the data amount of flightradar and it tends easily to crash with an error report. So I have to reload the site several times to view the map only one time...

But I found out, the link to the first plane is showing a different plane or the route is not correct. The route of VDA6089 goes too far south-west and we saw "our" plane directly at the sout-east viscinity of Lüdenscheid coming from southeast and then turning west or west-northwest in low level.

On the second link I could not see the mentioned plane. But I am not so familiar with flightradar and as I said my computer or internet seems to be a little slowly and the computer tends to break down.

So I am curious if it really was RA-76950.There are not many IL-76 to choose on 18.08.2011...

          Regards

...okay, but I don´t use the internet explorer, but the t-online browser.

But I found out, that the only IL-76 of 18.08.2011 followed definitely not the rout which is shown on flightradar.

So I think that the plane changed the route because of the bad weather report for the evening time here. Otherwise we never could have seen the IL-76 here in Lüdenscheid. Our town is not on the way that this plane had to follow.

What do you think? Do you have a different explanation for this encounter? And this russian line seems not to fly very often with this large plane here.

              Ebenso ein schönes Wochenende

              Edgar

...I tried it again on mozilla and this is very quick indeed. I searched again for the VDA6089 and stated that it started in Frankfurt-Hahn, then flew in the Luxembourg direction.

So this IL-79 could never appear here in Northrhine-Westfalia. How can this be?

                Regards

Could be a IL without ADS transponder , maybe
or the radar dint catch him in low alt.
                  uncovered area ?
                  Many posible reasons, unfortunally

Still think it is the one we see at later stage
as you say local time 18,30 means 16,30 UTC
this comes on at 17,30 UTC means 19,30 local german

not that many IL-76 wondering about

...to bring this to an end, I would state as follows:

the shown course on flightradar was the "regular" course from Frankfurt-Hahn via Luxembourg etc. to Scottland.

But from the west there came a bad weather front with heavy storm, lightnings and rain. In Belgium there were 5 dead people after the storm had smashed the riggs and constructions from the stage of an open-air concert. I think that the pilot got an alternative course in northern direction up to North-Rhine Westfalia and came over my hometown Lüdenscheid (near Dortmund). Then the plane turned back to north-west direction to Netherlands or North-Germany to Scottland. And it flew pretty low, not the normal flight level over to Scottland. When I saw this plane coming, it headed directly into our direction. I noticed the strong wing section on top of the fuselage and the 4 engines hanging below the wings. The elevator was sitting on top of the aileron. The whole plane looked strange and not typical for the planes that come and go every few minutes over the sky.

Do you think , this is a possible explanation? Not too much later the bad weather reached our town and we got heavy weather with rainstorm etc. In Dortmund they seem to have got a kind of small tornado, so my son told us.

                    Regards

                    Edgar
