Virgin Australia says drunk passenger tried to enter cockpit on flight to Bali
"This is no hijacking, this is a miscommunication. What happened was there was a drunk person... too much alcohol consumption caused him to act aggressively,"

I find it a bit strange when Virgin is saying that the hijack alert was a misunderstanding.

"Reports that Virgin Australia flight VA41 was hijacked en route from Brisbane to Denpasar are completely incorrect."
As the pilot used the code 7500, which means hijack, it's very hard to misunderstand the message.

Don't know why Virgin Australia is trying to play it down, there is no denying that the hijack squawk was used.

Drunk passenger sparks flight drama on Virgin Australia plane on way to Bali
The pilot had pressed the emergency button.

Transponder code 7500 is used to cover cases of 'unlawful interference'. It includes (but is not limited to) hijacking

Be thankfull they used it at all. Its not the norm for most aussie/NZ pilots. We have regular turnarounds due to faults/full emergency alerts. But they don't change the squawks due to the low number of traffic

The "Plumber" in question has been mediafied to a mental health patient by means of medication ingested rather than alcohol drunk. This helps as my questions were 1. Intoxicated persons aren't allowed on flights. 2 If he got on sober who served him enough alcohol to get him that drunk that he went off tap and was still too drunk to be questioned by police. I feel sorry for the guy personally as he was going that way not this way. This way he might get help, That way he is looking at jail.
Still a question of squawk code used. Not often as stated for Aussie/New Zealand pilots. wonder what its worth ?
