    A cargo plan arriving in Tallinn from Helsinki made an emergency landing on the frozen Ülemiste Lake next to Tallinn Airport this morning at 10.18 after one of its landing gear malfunctioned and shortly afterwards the plan developed engine problems, reported www.aripaev.ee.

    The AN-26 plane that belongs to a Polish company and carried DHL packages terminated its landing procedure after its landing gear did not function and tried to pick up height, but failed when its engine failed and fell to the ice.

    The plane had a crew of 6 persons on board made an emergency landing. According to authorities, no-one was injured in the incident.

    Snow clearing equipment is currently cleaning a path to the plane that is relatively close to the lake shore. Because of arriving rescue vehicles, there is a major traffic congestion near the airport.

    The authorities have started investigation of the incident.

    Lake Ülemiste is the main drinking water reservoir for Tallinn.
